2005-2006 Free Agent List

Started putting this together during 0-9. These are from going
through roster-by-roster on hoopshype.com, which means the
contract year ending is probably accurate but the $ amount
might not be.

This is probably one of the worst free agent classes in recent
years. Granted, we haven't been in the running since '98 to
"attract" anyone except by "overpaying them," but I can't recall
one shorter on star power. There are some guys in here who were
cheap and might be decent 2nd-tier players, though. Shooting
guard is about the only position where potential difference
makers are (though none of them, before Ray Allen and Larry
Hughes this season, have been). PG is probably the most
intriguing. A number of guys there--and not just the young
ones who turned in surprising seasons this year--could have
a big impact in the right situation. Look at who's available
at small forward. Ugh.

Legend: [TO] = Team Option that probably won't be renewed
[R] = Restricted, meaning the old team has the right
to match. Few of these guys actually change teams
for that reason, but I think it's safe to say
Kwame will be gone next season.

Guys who had player options aren't marked, since I really only
included those who probably wouldn't resign. Antonio Daniels
probably won't re-up for $2 million, but Keith Van Horn will
probably take that $14 million over the, say, 32 cents he could
get as a free agent. I also didn't include every guy that doesn't
look like much other than a career 12th man. There might be a
few guys who have retired toward the bottom of each position,
and lots of guys who SHOULD have retired a long time ago.

I more or less ranked them by no specific criteria, some throwing
at a dart board, and I don't particularly feel animated enough to
argue whether Rick Brunson or Jon Barry is a better player, mkay.
