Basketball. Women playing hoops.
Orange sphere bouncing, going into metal ring suspended
high above wooden court. Points scored. Sweat. Noise.
Running, jumping, rebounding. Nifty passes. Launching one
from 3-point land. Making it. Competition. Athletes. Skillz.
Sound familiar?

If 'n "doodly squat" mean bettin' your ol' sorry-ass team by
40 points with only our subs playin cause everybody else
was laughing too hard to play, then, yes, we's doodly squat.

Your center's Momma used to tie pork chops around her
neck so at least the dogs would play with her ...

Your point guard stink so bad Lysol Spray refuse to come
out of the can ... AND SHE GOTS A POINTY HEAD, TOO!

Oops, sorry about the caps; I get all excited trashing your team.
Ha ha.

Yup, see you next year, if'n you can stand to show your face the way
your team played! Ha!

Just out of curiosity, are you of the opinion that the overall quality
of women's basketball has taken a large leap forward over the past,
say, ten years? Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention for too long,
but I can remember attending girl's high school games, and women's
college games, and seeing, well, girls and women playing basketball.
As opposed to basketball players who happened to be female.

Head down looking at ball while dribbling, two-handed chest shots,
two-handed passes, just a general lack of sophistication and skill.
Athleticism, for sure, but not real skills (or often).

Nowadays, the way the players move, with or without the ball,
the skills, everything, is much better. Fun to watch. Basketball.
A good thing ...

No question. The talent pool is getting larger. I've been a park&rec
coach for about
20 years. The boys' talent has been more or less constant. The girls
have moved
forward by leaps and bounds, playing like the guys, if you'll excuse the
expression.
It doesn't match the boys, yet, but it's asymptotically approaching. Another
indicator is the increasing number of parents who are convinced
I'm ruining their 6 years old wonder girl's chances of getting a
scholarship. It also shows up in the number of club teams and the number
of HS teams competing for championships. The local recruiting powerhouses
can't stock pile any more and some of the have-nots are picking up gems.
