I said the Lakers defense was adequate..that doesn't mean top 15..it
means they were good enough when it mattered. You think game 6 was a
true representative of the Lakers defensive play this season? Thats
like saying the defense Boston played for about half of the 6 games,
which was atrocious, was pretty much how they played all year. I don't
want to hear about how they locked up the Lakers and overcame huge
deficits either..look at the stats..when the C's went on their runs,
the Lakers were one shot and out. No boards, no second chances, no
chance to control the tempo of the game. The C's are the perfect
example of what i'm trying to convey here..where do you want to see KG
play? Outside shooting jumpers or dominating inside getting rebounds
and easy high percentage shots? IMO Powe, Posey, and Perkins were the
MVP's of the finals. They individually made monumental contributions
at key times for the C's. Against those three the Lakers simply lacked
the talent to offset. Odom is not a true 4, let alone a five where he
spent a lot of time playing. At times he showed his abilities to play
around the basket but he was boxed out at just about the very split
second a shot was put up. Gasol is not the type of player to get
inside and go after rebounds..call him soft, whatever, thats not his
game and the Lakers knew that before they traded for him. So there's
the starting front line for the Lakers..that's where the boards are
supposed to come from for the most part. Now see why it's obvious why
the Lakers struggled and lost to a team that had a well above average
4? What I have a problem with is the lakers thinking Bynum is the
answer..that still leaves the 4 spot to either Gasol or Odom. Some
kind of change needs to be made but really it is a matter of one
player.
