I've pointed it out before, and all the sycophants and brain-dead
blinded followers that hang out in this news group squeal, but there's
no question but that the ownership of the Blazers by Paul Allen has
been an unmitigated and total disaster for the franchise. Oh yeah, it
was cool to have "the richest owner in professional sports," at least
it was for awhile, but then it dawns on you that it's not worth a
bucket of warm spit if that rich owner is totally clueless about how to
be an *effective* owner. And it's not even worth that much when he
starts letting the inmantes run the asylum. After having pile-driven
the franchise straight through the ground and into the sewer, and he
couldn't have done a better job of doing that if he had set out trying
to do exactly that, now he wants to dump it or move it because it's
going to lose a hundred million dollars over the next three years.
Whose fault is that, geek head?

The Blazers used to be one of the creme de la creme tiffany franchises
in the NBA. The prior ownership spent 20 years carefully constructing
a franchise that became a model for all others. Allen trashed it.
Hiring Trader Bob Whitsett and staying with him as long as he did and
giving him the unfettered unchecked authority that he gave him is at
the heart of the Blazer's present troubles. Trader Bob needed to be
supervised.

In 2000 the Blazers were the 4th most valuable franchise in the NBA,
behind only the Knicks, the Lakers, and the Bulls in that order, and
the Blazers franchise was worth $276 million. By 2004 the Blazers had
fallen to 12th place, being even passed by the likes of the Wizards and
the Pacers, and were worth $272 million. Of Major League baseball
teams, NFL teams, and NBA teams, the Portland Trail Blazers were the
only sports franchise to decrease in value over that time. Now it's
gotten so bad that the Blazers may be gone.

Hey Allen, instead of being a buffoon, why not try leaving the Blazers
in at least as good a shape as they were in 1989 when you found them?
You might have to shell out even more money, but you can afford it.
