Guildford Heat Basketball Club is delighted to announce the re-signing
of their star American shooting guard Danny Gilbert, a native of
Detroit, Michigan. Gilbert, who will be returning for his second year
with the Surrey side, was instrumental in the Heat's double-winning
2006/7 campaign, averaging nearly 17 points per game and, crucially,
was second in the BBL in the much coveted steals category, averaging
nearly 2.5 per game.

Gilbert led all scorers for the Heat in 8 of the 27 league victories
in the 2006/7 season and had a particularly scorching month of March,
when he was named BBL Player of the Month. Heat coach and acting
chairman Paul James had this to say about Gilbert's contribution to
his Heat side, "Daniel was number one or number 2 leading scorer in
more games than I can remember but what really sticks out in my mind
is his fantastic defensive qualities. All too often people only notice
the scorers on a team, but defense wins championships and without the
defense of Daniel we would not have won the cup or the league. We lost
him very early in the season to an injury that required key-hole
surgery at the Nuffield Hospital and even with that surgery Danny was
back on the court in about 2 weeks time. For him to have made the
recovery from surgery and then go on to eventually be a BBL Player of
the Month just makes me stop and think what our season would have been
like without him."

Speaking from his home in Detroit, Gilbert had this to say: "I am so
happy to be able to come back for a second season in Guildford; I
really enjoyed my first season there. The town is lovely and the
support of our fans is second to none in the BBL. When I was injured
in late autumn I was really disappointed as I had started the season
with a pair of big performances and wanted to repay the manager and
club for the faith they had had in signing me to begin with. Getting
the offer of a new contract was easy for me to agree to. As it stands,
I couldn't imagine playing for another BBL club or in another town
than Guildford."

The Heat will tip off play in October in an expanded BBL, with new
teams already confirmed for both London and Birmingham. There are
indications from the league HQ that yet another big market club may
soon be joining play and all point to the explosive growth of
basketball in the country. Season tickets are already on sale and for
