Hello everyone.
The BBL has given me a lot of entertainment over the past three years and I
want to give something back.
After a discussion at the Bears vs. Rocks game last night I now know that an
appropriate thing to do is to start a grass roots campaign for better and
more consistent UK TV coverage. The many consequences of this will be of
great benefit to fans, players, teams and the BBL. The three main benefits
that I see are more sponsorship money, larger regular crowds at bigger
venues and encouragement for young British based talent.
To kick this off I am looking for your support and practical help. So what
can you do? Here are some of the things that you might like to act up on
now:
1) Post your ideas here such as "Let's start an online petition" etc
2) If you know anyone working in or is connected with the UK Sports Media
(i.e. who is likely to open doors) let me know (I have some ideas for
conducting a structured media strategy)
3) Create some local interest in the idea for a grass roots campaign in your
home town
4) Come up with some other options that you believe will move us toward the
goal of TV coverage
5) Write to the Minister of Sport, Arena Owners, Heads of other Sports etc
to widen the sphere of influence
Overall the idea is to create some intelligent noise, a compelling story and
a level of demand for BBL action on TV that can not be ignored.
With thanks and best wishes to you all
Regards
Stephen
