The Guildford Heat travelled to Glasgow in their first BBL game of the
season and returned with a win. The Braehead Arena is a hard place to
play but a great first period game them a good start in the game. The
Heat started well and dominated the first period with some great play
form new America forward Danny Gilbert. Gilbert hit 16 first quarter
points on this way to a game high 36. The Heat pulled away from the
Rocks and with 2.56 remaining in the first led the game 24-14 and had
extended the lead at the first break to 28-16.

The second period was one of turnovers for the Heat even affecting
point Guard Brian Dux, as the Rocks came out with a 13-4 run,
eventually tying the game at 36, with 4.40 remaining in the first half.
The Rocks continued to press the Heat, finally finishing the period
with a 8-4 run to lead the game 48-44.

The third period was a sloppy affair as both sides battled hard but the
Rocks continued to remain on top and held their biggest lead at 68-54.
However, an 11-0 run, which started with the last basket of the third
quarter and continued into the final stanza, kick started the Heat
offence. A Gilbert basket handed the lead back to Guildford at 88-86
with two minutes left.

A tense final few minutes saw the Heat leading 90-89 with 39.7 seconds
to play as Gilbert unluckily fouled out of the game. The Rocks however
could not capitalise on this and it was Chad McKnight who was fouled on
the way to the basket who had the pressure free throws. McKnight had
had a poor night from the line but hit 1 from 2 but the rebound was
thrown away by Rocks forward Sterling Davis and Mike Martin recovered
the ball and was fouled and then converted the free throws, 93-89. The
Rocks moved the ball quickly up court but Davis failed to covert the 3
and with the final important play of the game Heat Captain Mike Martin
converted 2 free throws having been fouled to stop the clock with 5
seconds left. Rocks guard Rob Yanders scored the final basket unopposed
as the Heat ran out winners 95-91.
