| I saw the article in today's Oregononion about former assistant Heb
Brown and Maurice Cheeks having some kind of major fallout that nobody
will talk about. Anybody know the story behind this?
Seems to me that Maurice needs veteran coaches like Brown to assist
him.

I do not know the details, I did read the article and Herb had some good
comments on Zach.
Perhaps Brown was undermining Mo? I swear Cheeks has to learn the hard way
sometimes, but have to let him play though the mistakes too. =)

Ya gotta remember the cast of characters here. Mo is from Phillie.
Learned to coach at the knee of Larry Brown, Herb's brother. Mo even
continued to consult with Larry after taking the Portland job. Herb
being Larry's brother must've had alot to do with Mo hiring him in the
first place. This isn't just a typical head coach and assistant coach
relationship.
Then ya gotta remember what happened last summer. Larry Brown quit
the Sixers job to take the Pistons job, bad-mouthing the Sixers as he
left. Mo REALLY WANTED the Sixers job. But Portland wouldn't let him
go. Then somewhere in this mix Herb and Mo had a big time falling
out.
So I suspect something in that whole dynamic was at work. Something
was said, or done by one or the other, or something else like that.
It may well had nothing to do with the jobs either of them were doing
in Portland, per se. >> Stay informed about: Brown and Cheeks |

Would be nice to be a mouse in the corner for some of these
conversations.... Maybe the reporters will ferret it out.

Not likely, but I am sure they will make something up and report it as fact
anyway.

The whole of Usenet is my empire, which I stride like a colossus. I scan
pretty much the whole alt.sports.basketball.nba.* hierarchy every day --
filters on full power, of course.
(I also get to talk.origins a lot, which has made a tradition of spawning
daily pun-related sub-threads. I'm always ready to contribute -- a regular
eager beaver.)
