Now that #17 is in the rafters who should Boston draft next week?

Should Boston trade for another draft pick?

The Celts need to upgrade backup point guard, a backup center and another
2/3 who can shoot it.

They need to re-sign James Posey, but if they use the mid level for him they
will not be able to ad another quality free agent.

I think they may need to find a senior in this draft who can come in and
contribute right away at one of these positions.

Who do you like at 30?

I think they're expecting Gabe Pruitt to step into a role next year.

I think they'll go big given the long term questions about Perks shoulder.

see rochrist post re: backup PG and 2/3 shooter. The C's are looking at
Gabe Pruitt for those spots. Plus with Ray and PP, ballhandling is about
3rd or 4th on the list of priorities.

at the 2/3, they have Posey, R Allen, T Allen and PP. That's an area of
need since PP and RA and getting up in age, the jurt is out on TA, and Posey
is really a tweener/defender..

what they need more than anything else is an athletic big man who can play
both ends of the floor. some long armed, 6'10"+, athletic freak.

Dunno. I don't think there are a lot of guys that fit the bill. One
place that might be interesting to look is Alabama since they seem to churn
out players. the other option might be a draft day trade for Tyrus Thomas.
Reuniting him with Big Baby and getting him on a team with KG and Perk might
be just the thing for him. He is rumored to be available.

I could be wrong but I do not think you need to use the mid-level to
sign your own FAs.

Unlikely.

You don't, but the mid-level would be more money for him. The mid-level
was 5.356 million last year, and will be a bit more next year. You can
also resign him at 120% of his previous salary, which was around 3.5
million a year, so 4.2 million.

I sort of think they'll give him the mid-level if they have to, but
they'd obviously prefer to resign him at 120%. However, there's no
question but that he could get the mid-level elsewhere. I wouldn't
blame him for going for the money, as he's just hit his peak in terms of
value, and a million bucks is a significant chunk of change. If we're
lucky, he'll agree to come back for less money because he knows the
mid-level would be useful for another free agent to solidify the
rotation.

The trick there is to offer him an extra year or so to offset the gap in
pay next year.

Yeah, that's how I'd do it. Not that I'm an experienced NBA exec.
