COY

While there is a legitimate debate about MVP, lots of great players
and plenty of success stories (and Lebron's season of greatness but so-
so record), I can't see why Doc isn't COY hands down. The
accomplishments of the Celtics as a team this year have been
astounding, and team accomplishments should go to the coach: best
turnaround ever, highest point differential in the league (and
probably for several years), best defense. He has done a great job
building and working in what now may be the best bench in the league;
but one that he had to trust and develop to make happen. The Cs have
(at least) a 10-man rotation; and, though they knew what they were
getting in House and Posey, the way he's developed Powe and Big Baby
has been incredible. Add in the development of Rondo (directly under
Doc's tutelage) and Perkins, and what you have is an amazing
transformation.

Anyone who's watched consistently throughout the season could see the
development of the younger players happen right in front of them.
And, I think he's been an excellent strategist in terms of preparing
for teams (they only lost 3 games all season by more than 10 pts, I
believe, which is also amazing); and a good strategist down the
stretch -- which is where some might criticize, but also where having
3 superstar veterans helps and hurts.

And, to some extent, he hasn't always had the big 3. KG injured for
10 games (they go 8-2 anyway). Ray Allen injured for a handful of
games, no problem, and, I think, Ray wasn't particularly sharp for 1/2
the season, if not more. Let's not forget the great record against
the West and historic results against the TX teams.

Doc also went out of his way in the preseason to build chemistry and
teamwork; a brilliant move given the possibility that Pierce, KG and
Allen might clash.

Now, teams are always a mix of factors and the NBA at base a players
league; have to credit the unselfish play, Ainge's moves, assistance
coaches (but don't give me Tom T; no one ever seemed to want to credit
Tex Winters for Phil Jackson's success), etc. Doc should be COY by a
wide margin.
