Odom is probably afraid that if the Clippers actually do start winning, if
he leaves, he'll be called a money-grubber, opportunist, etc. He wants to
get out before they can win. Why else would he want to leave a situation
that's actually improving?
I think he might just want to play for Riley. Riley was the only guy who
actually went after this guy leading up to his draft. Others were too
worried about his attitude and behavior, despite him being the most talented
player in that draft. In fact, I think that's still the case today with
Odom. For his price, he'd be too much of a headache. Riley believes he's the
second coming of Magic and probably envisions him at PG, maybe even bulking
up a bit so he can be a legit center at times.
As a Heat fan, I could care less if we get Odom or not, but I'd rather get
him next year for a more cap-friendly price so we can actually go after a
center, the only thing the Heat needs for Riley to get them to the playoffs.
I wish Riley would have taken Odom back in the draft (make a trade to get
the pick). Now, I'm not as thrilled about Odom.
