The Celtics, having had most all of their team together since training camp,
barely beat a lowly Atlanta team in 7, a one-dimentional team in Cleveland,
a dysfunctional Detroit team and now LA which had to deal with Gasol
learning an entire new system mid season and without Bynum.
No offense, but this particular Celtics team is a far, far cry from the
Bryant/O'Neil Lakers teams, Spurs teams, even Olajuwon's Rockets.
At the very least they'll have to repeat to even get close to the level of
those teams and and what they did to win it all. >> Stay informed about: Congratulations Boston,,,,but,,,,not very impressed |

How funny. After that beating last night, at least one Lamer still
holds on to the belief that OFFENSE is the key to success. They are
quick learners, those Lamers.
Bryant had nothing.
Enjoy one of the worst losses in Finals history. I know I did....

I'm not sure who O'Neil is and what he did for the LA Lakers, but
you're right in pointing out that the majority of this Celtics team
only played together since the beginning of the season. Boston
actually didn't play very many great games, where they clicked on all
cylinders until the last game of the season. They usually had to work
much harder for their wins.
That fact makes winning the championship all the more impressive and
shows what a great coaching job Doc Rivers did in creating the
necessary chemistry for creating the greatest single-season turnaround
in NBA history, winning the most games in a post-season, and coming
back from the largest halftime deficit in NBA Finals history and
coming very close to the most lopsided score in NBA Finals History.
No doubt the Lakers have a lot of talent and can improve. But they
have more questions marks than Boston or even a number of Western
Conference contenders. It's never easy to come back form major
injuries, and what exactly do they know about Bynum as a long-term
player at this point outside of a 40-50 game window of good play?
Gasol and Odom can put up stats, but can they grind out wins when the
shots aren't falling and the calls aren't going their way. I thought
Farmar acquitted himself well in the last game, but the other members
of the Lakers supporting cast crumpled like aluminum foil when things
didn't go their way.
It makes it scarier for the rest of the NBA to think that Boston will
be even more formidable in the 2008-09, provided the core comes back
and stays healthy. They'll have a year of playing together and sussing
out the chemistry, they'll have the experience of overcoming adversity
and winning big playoff games and road trips. They'll have the growth
of Perkins and Rondo in the starting lineup and perhaps even progress
from Davis and Pruitt. They have a very good chance to win another
title or two with this team and could take their place alongside those
teams you've mentioned....although the more important measuring stick
is other Celtic championship squads.
16 was sweet, but 17 was sublime. Thanks to the Boston Celtics team
for an enjoyable season and the members of this newsgroup for great
discussion week-in and week-out. >> Stay informed about: Congratulations Boston,,,,but,,,,not very impressed |

Given that all those teams had multiple championships, it is a little
unfair to expect this Celtic to compare with them when they have only
been together one season.
