Even tho' in Ainge I Trust, I'm not too broke up over losing out on
Maggette. Posey would be a different story.

Too bad the team is already over the tax threshold. This FA season turned
out to be unexpectedly good due to all the opt outs. Figuring that the C's
don't have a realistic shot at Lebron, it would have been nice to get a
Brand or Smith. That way they'd have a stud younger guy to transition to
when KG & Co. are ready to hang it up.

Weird offseason. The lesson for GMs: don't trust players. (Didn't they
figure that out after Boozer screwed Cleveland?)

For the C's tho', looks like the EC just got a little tougher. The Wiz will
be intact, Philly will be better with Brand, Toronto upped the talent level
with O'Neal. Brand to Philly worries me more than O'Neal to the Raptors cuz
Elton is the kind of guy the 76'ers needed.

I figure the Nets and Knicks are still no threat for the next year or two.
Ditto Miami. If Atlanta remains true to form, they will lose Smith and be a
non factor.

Next season the EC looks like Boston, Philly, Toronto, Detroit, Cleveland
and Washington will be in the playoffs for sure. Who knows which two other
teams will luck in.

Brand is only 3 years younger than KG. He wont be a young stud anymore when
Garnet leaves

If healthy, Brand is a stud. His build and body type will allow him to play
another year or two longer than KG. EB worked hard to remake his body from
his early years and it paid off. Being able to land him would have meant
the C's would have been good for 2 or 3 more years after KG left. Worth it
if the C's were in position to make that happen.

OTOH, thank God the Lakers didn't get him.

Elton Brand has to be one of the least successful 20/10 players around. His
teams always seem to be unsuccessful. One player does make a difference in
the NBA - but Elton is not that one player it seems.
