Was. This year his contract is desirable because it ends. It is a way to
dump payroll. But that goes for keeping him too.

"for a chair" =) Damon told patterson he had bought him a nice chair at the
preseason press conference and got a good laugh.

Not just to get him out of town. I think he has done a decent job of
repairing his image with the re-hab and the canzano drug test and his best
season on the court in awhile.
Patterson and Nash and the media have been very positive about Damon.

Worse case scenario $450 fine in AZ and a one day jail sentence in Wa. But
that might not happen either, as they might not press when the law has been
changed up there on that amount of pot.
That would get a 1 to 3 game suspension from the league and (finally, if not
already in it) automactic entry into the league's anti-drug program.

Just what big or little endorsement contracts did he have to risk? And it is
not like his next contract is going to be more than the league average. I do
not think he needed much motive past himself and his desire to stay in
Oregon. Say what you want the guy has never been a quitter. That was proved
last season yet again.

I am all for improving talent. I am not for trading down just to get them
out of town. I think a more likely plan now might be to draft the best PG
available, (nbadraft.net has them taking Nelson right now) and develop him
behind Damon.
