File this under "not cool"
Damp: 29mins, 6-7, 9rebs, 14pts
Shaq: 37mins, 6-9, 11rebs, 16pts
This is not an off-night road game, but a do-or-die home stand. Shaq
may have slowed down a bit and certainly no one is going to claim he's
the force of nature he was even five years ago, but there's just no way
he's been reduced to the level of a guy like "Ericka." But numbers
don't lie. Either the Big Space Alien is choosing a very bad time to go
into the twilight of his career, or the Mavs are doing something that
is really taking the wind out of his sails. Doubles and even triples?
Yeah, but Shaq's seen that his entire career. It's not like Dallas is
the first team to throw over half their lineup at him. Fronting him?
That's nothing new either. Couple seven footers on him? That might be
it, since not everyone has a couple towers who can actually play.
The Heat just can't afford to have Shaq and Dampier battle to
essentially a draw. And with 'Zo only logging 8mins, it's pretty clear
that the problems are not just at the offensive end. 14pts is way too
many to be allowing to a role player who should be getting completely
dominated. This is supposed to be Shaq's World. He's not supposed to be
sharing it with people like Erick Dampier.

Either that, or snaqzilla is an overrated, overhyped, oversized,
under-talented bozo and always has been.
I, for one, am having a great time watching him get handed him lunch.

IMO, the defense that Riley has him playing is wearing him out. The guy
is what, 34 yrs old? I think Riley has forgotten that and expects him
to have the same engery has Wade does. >> Stay informed about: Dampier vs. Shaq -- stat line nightmare for Heat |

Let's be honest here, Shaq is getting double and triple teamed every
time he touches the ball. Avery's whole defensive scheme revolves
around stopping Shaq. With all the Shaq bashing that goes on here (by
lakers fans, I believe) nobody talks about how the whole Mavs team
practically collapses on him when he gets the ball. It's going to make
it tough for him to score significant points. The other players have
to step up and make it more difficult to put all those players on Shaq.
Dampier is more or less left alone, sometimes even when he has the
ball. You can't compare the two situations. >> Stay informed about: Dampier vs. Shaq -- stat line nightmare for Heat |

The Heat are the Lakers of the East - If the Heat can sign all the guys that Shaq wants (Malone, Horry, Russell), then the Heat pretty much ARE the Lakers. So you would basically have Shaq, Eddie, Samaki, Malone, Horry, Russell, not to mention Riley and Pfund on the same team. Plus, a Miami... |
