From "The Garden Grasp"
Gallinari's preference for playing in New York along with his father's
relationship with D'Antoni have been well documented. There is no question
that Walsh made this choice to appease his new head coach. Walsh - who
admitted to not seeing Gallinari play in person - relied heavily on his
scouting staff for direction. Reportedly, Isiah Thomas was one of the
individuals who influenced Walsh to make the selection. Walsh would go on to
say Thomas told him "this kid won't back down". For fans who thought the
days of Thomas having a say in current affairs had come to an end, sadly
this is not the case.

Apology accepted.
There are others here though who haven't apologized and still think what
Walshy did with Isiah Lord Thomas III is A-OK.

I think at this juncture, your point has been made and solidly backed

I said the instant Walsh was hired that Isiah would maintain a role in
the organization.

The reasons why: Dolan likes him and Walsh likes him in that order.

I never claimed anyone had to like it. I don't.

Precisely... Fanatics as a rule dont normally get what they want. What
makes Knick fanatics any different. I have said this before and I say
this again. Isiah Thomas has something yes something on Dolan and if
not well then dolan really loves this guy and if that is the case we
can just forget all the I hate Isiah bullshit because it is like
pissing in the wind.

This is a real slap in the face to every Knick fan out there. And Walsh is
about as stupid a man as there is for saying that to the media. This comment
shows he is out of touch with the Knick fan base. He has to know that every
Knick fan on the planet blames Thomas for this mess the Knicks are in for
the next 2 years at least. Even if Thomas was the vote that tipped the scale
in favor of Nilo, even if Walsh truly believes he is a "great Basketball
mind", it is in the best interest of Walsh's image as the current face of
this franchise to keep this opinion away from the media and in turn the
public. Now Dan has already started to type " you mean you would rather be
lied to? ". No, that isn't what I am saying. What I am saying is that we as
fans, long suffering fans of this team need positives to keep our interest
in this team. This was a huge negative. He could have said Go find some you
tube video of some Armani games last season. He could have said his D is not
as bad as advertised. He could have said the guy brings a skill set to this
team it hasn't had in the last 5 years, a big man who can shoot the ball
from anyplace. Instead, he tells us Thomas said at the end of games, this
kid does not back down. Freaking genius.
I now agree with Dan. Thomas has to be cut out of this organization with
extreme prejudice. He is a cancer and he needs to be removed.

What's funny is that in this instance I actually think Walsh is lying
or reeeeally bending the truth at best. Perhaps Isiah really did make
that quote to him but the pick was soooo so obviously D's.

I think Walsh is trying to build Isiah's image back up. For years now
MSG has been seen as a place that ruins careers. It is important that
we change that image back... which is why if Steph can run D' out of
town that will really be the final straw for me. Thing is, that image
is ALL due to Isiah Thomas so it does seem off that he's part of the
restoration...

In all seriousness though Gallinari is exactly the type of player that
D' covets and exactly the type of player that Isiah has shied away
from. A smart, Euro player with sound fundamentals whose athleticism
is somewhat suspect. I don't buy that his word was anything more than
chiming in with a vote of confidence on a decision already made once
other players were off the board. (rumor has it that if Westbrook and
Mayo were on the board it may have complicated things). D's connection
with the family seems like the overriding factor.

Or maybe that's the brilliance of it. Isiah has deceived us again by
doing exactly the opposite of what he would usually do. Isiah being
his own polar opposite might not be a bad thing for us, no?

I was joking. I don't really think that Isiah Thomas went to Italy
because Mike D'Antoni found him annoying and wanted to get rid of him.

If any of you find me annoying, let the record state that I'd be happy
to accept a prepaid plane ticket to and hotel accomodations in Italy.

While I feel your pain glenn, question really is does dolan or walsh
feel your pain like I do or how about this... Do they even care?
I agree with you though glenn, it was stupid IMHO to even mention
Isiah's name. Maybe this is the straw that breaks glenn's back? Will
you now leave our famous Knick place? Misery leaves company glenn,
stay with us and let us commissurate together. Did I spell that right?

Nothing gets done until the official scout of the Knickerbockers, Isiah Lord
Thomas III, okays it. Riddle me this: if it was " soooo so obviously D's"
decision why would the official Knicks scout be in Italy scouting DG?

I'm fascinated by this distorted logic. If Isiah Lord Thomas III is cancer,
you don't hold his hand and try to sing Kumbaya to him.

What do you suppose his next "assignment" of rehabilitation will be?
