Read the assertion I countered and hopefully you'll understand the relevance
(hint: key word is "improve.") I won't hold my breath but do try your best.

What player is the Most Valuable to his team?
What player is the best player in the league?
Are they the same? >> Stay informed about: Dirk says Kobe Is MVP |

By my definition, it's hard for me to imagine a case where they're
different; about the only cases are:
1) where a player is really "redundant" on a team (i.e. dominant center when
the team already has one, or SG or whatever) -- pretty dang rare.
2) when you define "best" by rate and "Most Valuable" by overall production.
LeBron and KG both missed a stretch of games this year so while their
production rates didn't take a hit their overall production did. Kobe and
CP have suited up for every game (and play VERY heavy minutes) so they have
given their teams more minutes this season -- extra value.

I don't see a ton of Mavs games but the times he's played the Lakers he's
matched up well with them defensively. In the game at LA in March, he
primarily guarded Odom who scored 6 pts on 2-8 shooting... Dirk had 13
rebs, 2 blks, 2 steals. He sure wasn't hurting them defensively.
The game in Dallas he again guarded Odom mainly who scored 17 pts on 5-15
shooting... this time Dirk had 11 rebs and 5 blocks, 0 steals. He did a
*great* job disrupting a lot of plays down low in this game.
82games.com has his net production at +12.1 (28.0 for Dirk, 15.9 for his
positional "opponent"). By way of comparison, Duncan, who is universally
and rightfully praised as a plus defender, is at +11.4 (27.6 for Duncan,
16.1 for his positional opponent). So he's in a dead heat by that metric
with an All-NBA defender...

He played much better after the ASB but he's not as good this year as he was
last year, when he deservedly won the MVP.

You're noozreader is done broke... it left out the part where I brought in
season-long stats that reinforce my observations. But you sound so clever!
> And Odom? ROTF. Is this a joke?
Do I sound like I'm joking? Since The Trade, Odom has been playing great.
In Feb and March he averaged 15/12/4 on *58%* shooting.
The two matchups I brought up Dirk held Odom to an average of 11 ppg on 30%
shooting. I never hang my hat on 2 games, but Dirk definitely did a good
job defensively on Odom in those games. It's also worth pointing out that
the Lakers played 30 games since The Trade... Lamar has been on fire during
that time and shot 50% FGs or better in 25 of those games. Which of course
means that in 2 of the 5 times he shot *below* 50%, it was Dirk guarding
him.
BTW you're welcome for bringing Odom into this... I know it is a wet dream
realized for you to be able to simultaneously bag on Dirk and Lamar in one
thread.

HER STORY AND HIS STORY were agreements to take it out of court so long as
Kobe made a half assed admission. He did. Then they settled out of court.
Rape victims don't often want to go through trial because their history and
their life is drug through the mud. With that said, the fact is Kobe
admitted that he could see how she would not see it the same way.
Basically, you and I both know, it goes something like this: "Don't stick it
in my ass... Ouch Ouch take it out... "Hold on, I am about to cum." The end!
Fact is, Kobe could not control himself and he raped her. He knows he did
and therefore he settled out of court to keep her quiet. >> Stay informed about: Dirk says Kobe Is MVP |

And you would not have signed that statement to have a felony rape case
dropped?

In this case the prosecution could not scrape enough mud, muck and various
men's semen off of her to make her a believable witness.

There were two people in that room, unless you are that woman you do not
know the fact...

Does not make sense.
You do not settle criminal cases out of court. It was the people of Colorado
vs. Kobe Bean Byrant.
The state dropped it because they had no case past the word of a known liar.
And she would have got many times the payoff on the civil suit if he had
been convicted.
He settled because it was cheaper, she settled because she was unlikely to
win with it becoming known she was a liar.

This seems to be the prevailing sentiment - although LeBron and Paul are
both much better than Kobe this year he will get it as a lifetime
achivement award. Works for me, I'd vote for Paul but will root for Kobe.

And, once again, the NBA is proven to be little more than professional
wrestling.
It started with the All-Star game were Magic Johnson (the most ironic
name in sports history) was allowed to participate - even though he
hadn't played a single, solitary game that year. It has continued
with the "no charge" zone, the absurd claims that Michael Jordan is
the best player, at ANY position, in NBA history, and on and on.
....and, of course, David Stern's continuing desire to have "glam ball"
be played instead of basketball.
Is it any wonder that the US can't win gold at the Olympics anymore? >> Stay informed about: Dirk says Kobe Is MVP |

I agree... clearly the reason the US can't win gold is because the
postseason awards have been handed out to the wrong people. It is really
tough to adjust to the international game when thoughts of Iverson's 2001
MVP win are in the back of your mind.
