Is there anybody on the list that knows how girl's basketball is broken
down in California?

In other words, how may divisions are there? And how are they ranked
(is Division-I the highest level or the lowest level)?

A California recruit, Juanise Cornell, just verbally committed to
Colorado State. She's from Bishop Amat High School which went 35-0 and
won the Division-III championship. Juanise was the D-III co-player of
the year for the Southern Section in California.

I'm just trying to get a feel for what those credentials mean.

Thanks,

Bob

Hey a real post! Divisions go 1-5 or I-V. Div 1 being the big public
schools, 4 & 5
the small private schools that recruit, er, give scholarships, er, give
everyone an
opportunity for a quality education. 2 & 3 contain the smaller public
schools and
most of the catholic schools. Amat is in the huge southern section.
Basically, all
of southern cal except LA proper and San Diego. Its so big they
actually have
sub-divisions 1A, 1AA, 2A, etc. Although 2 & 3 might be considered the
weaker
divisions statewide, its plenty competitive in the southern section.
Don't know the
player in question, but I'm sure she can bring it.

: Hey a real post!

You bet. Maybe a few of the real WBB fans will come back and help us
make r.s.b.w an enjoyable and informative news group again.

Something like 540 schools from what I've heard.

Many thanks for the elucidation. That helps quite a bit.

When I don't know much (or anything) about a recruit, I generally go by
who else is trying to recruit her. In Juasine's case, two other schools
were interested in her (or to be more specific, she was interested in
them -- they were on her list to visit). Those schools were Montana
State and University of San Francisco. Not overly impresive.

But you never know. I don't remember who besides Colorado State tried
to recruit Becky Hammon, but she is widely known for not having been
highly recruited. She came out of the wilds of Rapid City, South
Dakota. She didn't do too bad for herself. :-)

Thanks again for the info.

Bob

I keep hoping the same thing myself but am not willing to bet on it. I
think most fans post on school or team message boards these days.

Which is too bad. A bunch of people posting: "our team is red hot,
their team is diddly squat" in an echo chamber.
