From today's ESPN Insider: "The word around the league is that the
Bucks have been shopping Kukoc, and his expiring contract, to teams
trying to cut payroll. The team is looking for first-round draft picks
and at least one young prospect in return. While nothing is imminent,
look for something to go down closer to the trade deadline in
February."

Was there any text before this paragraph that sheds light on this
development? (I'm asking because I don't get Insider and it's curious
that Kukoc is referrend to by his last name only - it suggests that
something came before.) Are they suddenly unhappy with him? Or is it
purely a contract/strategic move? Just curious ...

Thx.

The paragraph before was a note about Caffey's contract being bought out and
Kukoc being the only player on the roster over 30. Then it said he may not be
here for long and then was the info I posted.
There's no sense the Bucks are unhappy with Kukoc. On the contrary, they
were quite pleased with him last season. But with a $9 million contract coming
off the books at the end of the season, he stands to be a very attractive
trading commodity. If the Bucks were able to get a No. 1 pick and a young
prospect for Kukoc, that could be a very sweet deal.

OK, thanks. I knew they were happy with him last year so that's why I
was puzzled he was being shopped this early in the season. I could
certainly understand unloading him in February if the compensation is
attractive enough, but I would think they'd want his "veteran presence"
for at least the early part of the season since the team is so young. I
think the Bucks would want him on the court (offensively) at the end of
close games, at least early on. I know his game has flaws, but I still
think he's an asset to the Bucks.
