In his second stint with the Warriors, Don Nelson has an 81-63 record.
The Warriors have exercised their option for next season on Nelson's
contract, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com.
Nelson, who turns 68 in May, has an 81-63 record in his second stint
in Golden State. That includes the more recent run of 55-28, which
began with the Warriors' 16-5 push at the end of last season.
That late surge pushed Golden State into the playoffs for the first
time since 1994, which was Nelson's last full season in his first
stint in Oakland. After halting the club's 12-season playoff drought
-- and guiding Golden State to a momentous first-round upset of the 67-
win Dallas Mavericks -- Nelson renegotiated his contract in the
offseason.
The new deal announced in September -- a two-year contract with the
2008-09 season at the Warriors' option -- bumped Nelson's annual base
salary from $3 million to roughly $5 million.
The Warriors began the week 12 games ahead of last season's pace after
62 games.
