Why did he wear all that stuff? One might think he was hiding something,
something that gave him extra lift.
Anyway, I think it looked very silly. He looked like a streetball player
in the winter.

There's something unwholesome about a Clippers' newsgroup.

I still like the last one Andre Ig did. I've watched and watched it, still
can't figure out how he did it. My best theory is that somehow he made his
head go through the backboard.

The real question is how Spud Webb is even in there at all. Yes he
had mad hops, but his dunks by comparison were not as acrobatic or
exciting or as difficult of any of Dominiques in the finals against
Jordan in 84. More recently Jason Richardson has had some INSANE
dunks when he went back to back. Also, Vince Carters dunk when he put
his elbow inside the rim was more impressive than any of those
mentioned. I guess it is a matter of taste, and also a matter of
being susceptible to the hype.

Spud had amazing leaping ability, but he wasn't above the rim. He needed
very good timing to pull some of those dunk off. Players like Carter and
Richardson need less precise timing because their leaping compensates.
Spud was just a small kid with small arms that had to hope there was a
ball at the end of the leap.

I don't understand where skin color has anything to do with it..

Because if you look at the distribution of African-American NBA
players vs Caucasian NBA players, the African-American NBA players are
far superior dunkers than the Caucasian players.
Does this mean that all Caucasian players can't dunk? No.
Does this mean that all African-American players are great dunkers?
No.
Does this mean that a Caucasian player can't be a better dunker than
an African-American player? No.
But you take a player who is at "x" percentile of dunking ability of
all Caucasian NBA players and compare to a player who is at "x"
percentile of dunking ability of all African-American NBA players, the
African-American player will almost certainly be the better dunker.
Believe me, I'm all for treating everyone equally and everyone having
equal rights regardless of skin color. But to ignore differences
between races is not the solution. >> Stay informed about: ESPN poll on favorite slam dunk |

You're kind of going in two directions here. At this point you're
saying that a white guy can indeed be a better dunker than a black
guy. But the original point was that if one single white guy can do a
particular dunk, then that demonstrates that the dunk cannot be that
difficult.
Unless the point was that he did it in his warm-ups, in which case
ignore this. >> Stay informed about: ESPN poll on favorite slam dunk |
