It's early, and this will probably change. But if it doesn't change,
you lose major conference status. *Neener*. Can you say "mid major"?
I knew you could. From Sagarin:

CONFERENCE CENTRAL MEAN SIMPLE AVERAGE TEAMS

1 ATLANTIC COAST = 83.85 83.93 ( 1) 12
2 SOUTHEASTERN = 82.91 82.91 ( 2) 12
3 BIG TEN = 81.90 81.64 ( 3) 11
4 BIG 12 = 81.64 81.53 ( 4) 12
5 BIG EAST = 80.68 81.22 ( 5) 16
6 MISSOURI VALLEY = 79.91 79.63 ( 7) 10
--------------- Ding-dong-the-Pacific-witch-is-dead -------------
7 MOUNTAIN WEST = 79.89 79.71 ( 6) 9
8 PACIFIC-10 = 78.37 78.55 ( 8) 10

The Big East shouldn't be resting on its laurels either. Dangnabbit I
cannot believe we took in Miami and VT. Maybe VT will hold up. We can
always hope.

Unfortunately for the ACC, a lot of that is the early seeding. If I
have to eat my words, I'll just dissolve them in gin.

Tell us Pac-10 types something we don't know. We'll be lucky if half
of the teams are in either tournament in March.

But that's the good thing about basketball; unlike football, they
don't penalize the "mid-majors" when it comes time to handing out the
postseason TV money.
Conference $/school
1 Big 10 1,237,500
2 Big 12 1,216,300
3 ACC 1,093,300
4 Pac-10 1,049,600
5 Southeast 997,700
6 Big East 799,500
7 Conference USA 601,300
8 West Coast 369,000
Dollar values are approximate and are based on (a) the NCAA's
announcement that there is $122,800,000 to be divided and (b) the
assumption that the money is divided equally among the schools in that
conference. Note that the NCAA budget rules say that wins by a team
that switches conferences count towards the conference it was in at
the time, and not the one it just joined.

Be careful. Arizona might be awfully good come the end of the year.
Lute's got some work to do, but there are a lot of horses on that team.
Mr. McLellan will help a bunch when he gets back...

And they don't pick teams based on how well your fans travel.
What complete and utter tripe.

That seems logical.

Since Sagarin has them at #8, the rest of the conference
is that much worse.

[Smacks forehead] "Darn, I could have scheduled the Pac 10!"
Let's break 'er down by the rankings:

8 (Very good)
18 (Good)
48 (Decent)
53 (Decent)
74 (Competitive)
97 (Somewhat competitive)
116 (Doormat material)
143 (TWO doormats?!)
226 (What the heck is *this* doing a in major conference?!)
232 (TWO OF THESE?!!! This is Patriot League material!)

Fortunately for the PAC10 this don't mean a darn thing --
it's just a wiff of smoke in the air. Could be a cigarette,
or a barbeque, or maybe a raging wildfire. Ya never know.
Once the seeding is gone, I'd recommend turning on those
hoses though. Just in case...
