It was nice to see some b-ball stuff in the comPost this time of year, and
I didn't know anything about Arenas. He seems pretty whacked, which is a
good thing for a PG. He also looks like Eric Snow, which is a hopefully a
good sign. 18 6 and 4 are really great numbers for a youngin, but he
played for who? But 18-some points and 6-some assists does look like
there's some real PG skill there.
Also interesting in the article was the way Jordan raised a comparison to
the big bucks guy and some guy who's just a hometown guy, which in NBA
terms I suppose Blake is now in DC, although I believe he's originally
from Florida. The draft has a huge hometown influence, starting with
Cleveland taking Mr. Hype, LeBron James. At any rate, the PG problem is
solved, and gives way to the "which PG?" problem, a lovely problem to
have. I suspect with Blake and Whitney around Arenas will be seeing
significant 2-guard time, and that will increase over Blake's time with
the team. And that is what Jordan was hinting at. Eddie Jordan seems like
the type that doesn't give out a lock on the 1. Particularly when he was
so high on Blake. Which is why I'm so high on Jordan.
MAN I'd love to watch Wizards practices this year. Like I would have loved
to watch Blake and Heinrich work out for the Wizards. Arenas also went on
at length about pickup summer games in MCI ...
the past three weeks, Arenas has been in Washington, working out on
his own, then taking part in two-hour, daily pick-up games at MCI
Center with teammates Jerry Stackhouse, Hughes, Haywood, Etan Thomas,
Steve Blake and local pros Steve Francis, Chris Wilcox, Sam Cassell,
Tony Massenburg and others.
I sure hope "others" includes Kwame and Brendan.
