| From Sunday's Journal Sentinel, it looks like the Bucks will have $8.4M to
spend, which is quite a bit more than they had last year. He's how it was
broken down: "The Bucks also have the $5-million, mid-level exception
available, along with another exception worth $1 million, and a $2.4 million
salary "assignment" from the trade of Joel Przybilla."

The 1 million exception which retains that name and is available every other
season, is actually 1.6 next year.

So the Bucks have $9M to spend and maybe more if the Bobcats take
Strickland, who's probably going to be left unprotected. I'm wondering if your
e-mail to Enlund is what prompted him to spell out how much money the Bucks
have available this summer. :)
In any event, the Bucks have almost twice as much money to spend on free
agents than they had last year. I think they're sitting in a good position to
add more talent in the off-season. >> Stay informed about: Bucks Free-Agent Money Broken Down |

Perhaps. He never answered me.

Trouble is the exceptions every team has, they can not outbid anyone. The
trade exception, the 2.4 mil and if the Bobcats take a player, only means
they can take more than usual back on a trade, that is not FA money.

There will be decent talent around they can get. Can not outbid teams under
the cap but might have good sign and trade possibilities too.

So the $1.6M exception and the $2.4M exception can only be filled through a
trade?

I don't know if Skinner would agree to a sign and trade and he's about the
only guy who it seems would have any value there. Maybe Kukoc, but I doubt it. >> Stay informed about: Bucks Free-Agent Money Broken Down |

The 1.6 can only be used on a FA. It can not be combined with the MLE.
The 2.4 is a trade exception and can only be used to make a trade work. Say
they trade someone making 4 mil they could usually take back 115% plus 100K
which would be 4.7 mil. With this exception they could take back a player
making up to 6.4 mil. in that example. If the Bobcats take a player his full
value would be added to the trade exception.

So basically, the most the Bucks can use to sign a FA is the mid-level,
correct? I'm thinking that $2.4M exception is going to prove of no value this
summer since I can't think of anyone the Bucks would be looking to move. They
seem content to keep Van Horn, but obviously he would be candidate No. 1 due to
his contract. Maybe they could find a taker for Haislip and use the $2.4M
exception there. >> Stay informed about: Bucks Free-Agent Money Broken Down |

Unlikely they would need it for that.

That's what I had been thinking, but then all these stories about how the
Bucks had more money started coming out and I got confused. Not that that's
such a difficult thing to do at times. :)

True. Maybe a sign-and-trade involving Skinner. Sign Skinner for $5M and
then make a trade for someone making $7.4M. >> Stay informed about: Bucks Free-Agent Money Broken Down |
