Grant and Lue want to play with Shaq

MIAMI - Brian Grant would love to know whether he'll return to Los Angeles
next season to play for the Lakers, or if he'll return to Miami to play for
the Heat.

"If he was to become a free agent," said his agent, Mark Bartelstein, "Miami
would be the first team he'd consider."

Guard Tyronn Lue, who has drawn interest from the Heat, would love to know
whether he'll rejoin the Atlanta Hawks or hook up with his friend Shaquille
O'Neal in Miami.

But because the NBA and the players union haven't signed the new collective
bargaining agreement (CBA), Grant, Lue and others remain on hold.

"Every day seems like a dog day," said Andy Miller, Lue's agent.

The league announced Monday that the CBA probably won't be signed until late
this week. The league and union then will need two or three days to educate
teams and players on the specifics of the deal. Then players can sign
contracts.

Under a one-time amnesty clause, teams will be able to release high-priced
players to escape paying the luxury tax on their salaries. Grant, who has
two years and $29.5 million remaining on his contract, seems a prime
candidate to be released by the Lakers. He played four seasons for the Heat
before going to L.A. in the O'Neal trade.

"He'd love to sign with Miami," Bartelstein said. "But we don't know what's
going to happen yet."
