Plan Would Allow Limited Hunting of Yellowstone Bears, Development in
Habitat
The Bush administration today will take the first step toward removing
Yellowstone's grizzly bears, a living icon of the American West, from the
nation's endangered species list.

OK, am I the only one who wondered what kind of status Memphis ever had &
how beating the Lakers caused them to lose it?
I did hear about this delisting proposal by the environmentally friendly
Bush administration &, IMO, it's more about opening more land for logging &
mining then the animals themselves. Big surprise there.
Wanda, here's a link to the National Resources Defense Council's web page
from which you can send a message to the US Fish & Wildlife Service
regarding this proposal (if you haven't already).

Nope. Me, too. But confusion gave way to amusement when I decided it
was intended as parody, and turned quickly to horror once I finished reading
it and realized it was serious. I facetiously posted it, omitting the "OT"
designation---being silly to keep from outright wailing hysterically, I
guess.
:::sigh:::
Shouldn't be long before this "war president" declares the bald eagle
the official new Thanksgiving feast bird for _patriotic_ [North] Americans.

In the "First Thanksgiving" skit in Stan Freberg's comedy
album "Stan Freberg Presents The United States of America,"
an inept assistant cook left in charge of the dinner
mistakenly roasts the turkey meant to be the National Bird
centerpiece instead of cooking the eagle meant to be the
main course. The head chef returns and after berating the
cook says that they'll just stuff the eagle and make it the
National Bird and "Nobody will know the difference." >> Stay informed about: Grizzlies May Lose Status |

Damn, I loved that album (a precursor to CDs for the younger posters) when I
was a kid. Not only was it funny, it also provided a decent overview of
American history, albeit slightly warped. The bit about trading Manhattan
Island for junk jewelery is classic. : )

Hilarious stuff. After succumbing to the Indians' logic
that he didn't discover anything but that they discovered
him landing on their beach, Columbus offers to cash a check
at the nearest bank and buy America from the Indians "to
keep the history books straight," but is informed by the
Chief that he can't get a check cashed because all the banks
are closed for Columbus day. After complaining that all of
Jefferson's esses look like effs and expressing concern that
it might start a revolution or something, Ben Franklin warns
Jefferson that he better hurry and get the Declaration of
Independence signed before the Congress takes off for the
4th of July holiday. Washington, renting a boat to cross
the Delaware, is undecided whether to go with the boat that
looks like Donald Duck or the one with the striped awning.
Ya gotta hear the voices and the silly songs (e.g., "It's a
Round, Round World") to really appreciate it. >> Stay informed about: Grizzlies May Lose Status |

Not to mention, Betsy Ross's parting line after creating the American Flag,
"Besides, 100 years from now, what the heck difference will it make?" : )

There is just to many dam bears right now. Its like lions in California.
They made it illegal to hunt them so now they have to pay to kill them when
their are no dear left.
Tree huggers are killing this place.
