Yes. The plan was to slip though undrafted for a big payday down the line as
a F when he was a euroleague star. Cheeks says he still needs a coulp of
years.

Okay, well you know it's the anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin
resolution. Apparently, before the '68 elections, a group of
anti-war lawyers were going to try to bring a lawsuit arguing
that Congress had essentially passed an anti-constitutional
measure in ceding the power to make war to the president.

Morse backed up the group when they came to him, but said they
should go get Fulbright's support, since he wasn't totally in
Johnson's doghouse at that point. According to me person telling
me this story, Fulbright refused outright, explaining that he
was getting a lot of coverage as the anti-war senator and didn't
want to lose it.

When the guy telling me this story (one of the anti-war lawyers)
went back to meet with Morse, he expected him, per his reputation,
to explode with indignation. Nothing of the sort. Apparently he
flushed and started tapping his foot. At this point, he knew he
was going to lose re-election and just wanted to do what he could
while he was there. The lawyer guy was already used to the
cynicism of politics and thought this was amazing.

You'd think so, but when was the last time a guy signed a long
term deal when he could have gotten quite a bit more money?
(Don't say Carlos Boozer :-))

I think the problem was expecting Morse to be predictable. =)
