I've been a martell "skeptic" but it sure looks like he came out
firing in the first game.

yeah, it's only pre-season, but still...28 points on 11/14 shooting
and no turnovers. If he finally gets his act together it will help the
blazers immensely.

one quibble is he only got 2 rebounds and the blazers needed somebody
to step up. outrebounded 54 to 39, and gave up 21 offensive rebounds.
That's as bad as last year and they need to do better. I thought that
was one of the things they were going to focus on.

29 assists on 39 baskets and 111 points...that IS better then last
year though.

frye and jones looked like they did well too.

He looked just as confident talking about it in the locker room afterwards.
So... "hope I was right" and he has a breakout season and proves it... but
preseason is a little like summer league...he shines there too..

Fyre really struggled on ofense at least for much of the game (from what I
could tell on the radio). Hopefully was just trying too hard...

well, it was preseason and it was th clippers without maggette,
mobley, and kaman...not to mention brand.

and yes, martell has had good games before so it's hard to view it as
a sign of things to come. He did take more shots inside the 3pt line
then outside which is an improvement, and according to reports he was
making some quick, aggressive basketball moves. And that would be an
improvement. He does have a lot of competition at the SF position and
even with last night I don't think he's moved out of 3rd position
there. Maybe some time at SG.

We'll see how things go against denver in denver...friday night i
think. Denver is a pretty good rebounding team so portland may get
killed on the boards if they don't improve.

I saw a couple of highlights that were like...who is that guy?...a stutter
step pu;; up jumper that had the defender unwind there bandages...

Sounds like Jones is pretty much out for the preseason sp Martell gets a
better chance.

Doubt Denver will get as many Offensive rebounds...because they will not
miss so many shots...

This one...
http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/119...9534631

Webster, who turns 21 in December, seems to be maturing. He entered training
camp perhaps in better shape than any Blazers player -- he logged the
fastest time in McMillan's conditioning test -- and he accepts coaching as
if he were a training camp invitee hoping to land a roster spot.

The transformation in attitude has led to an evolution in his game. Webster
says he doesn't just put in extra work for show, he focuses on various
aspects of his game to help his overall play. For example, he continually
worked on a move after practice last week with shooting coach John Townsend
in which Webster stood outside the three-point line, faked as if he were
dribbling toward the basket, only to step back and stroke a shot.

He swished a shot using the move Wednesday night.
