"They made sure they just showed us hitting people," O'Neal said. "There' s
a reason why we were running around. There's 15 of us, and there's thousands
of them.

"I saw a lot of people say the NBA is too hip-hoppish. What is too
hip-hoppish? What does our preference of music have to do with who we are? I
'm pretty sure a lot of hockey players and baseball players listen to rock '
n' roll and heavy metal. Does that determine who they are?"

O'Neal pointed out that a Texas Rangers player threw a chair into the stands
this past baseball season and broke a woman's nose.

"It wasn't talked about for seven weeks," he said. "The (NBA) is 85 percent
black. All of a sudden we're under scrutiny for who we are.

It has everything to do with who you are. Look, let's be honest here.
I've been in lockerrooms where hip-hop music was playing. The beats
are pounding, savage, animalistic; the hooks are enormous. I'll admit,
they frighten me a little. A girl I dated once went to a hip-hop
concert one time -- one time! -- and the next week I asked her if she
wanted to go see Husker Du, and she just sort of gave me this
embarrassed grimace, then she went upstairs with three guys in a
hip-hop group. As far as I know, she's never listened to a rock group
since. Another girl let me keep buying her music, but I think she was
listening to hip-hop while I was at work. I just don't think women can
be trusted around that kind of music. I think I have a right to be
intimidated.

well, hockey players are stereotyped as either white rednecks from canada,
or europeans.

by saying that baseball players listen to "rock 'n' roll" and "heavy metal",
what is jermaine implying?

That baseball is mostly white or something? Baseball is one of, if not THE
most diverse sport there is now.

but what did that guy do? he took his punishment without complaining. He
knew he was wrong for throwing the chair.

Reminds me of the historical marker at pistol river...something about the 20
some settlers surrounded by 1500 'desperate' indians...

With Mr. Wilson, one can't always be sure. What with toeing the rightwing
party line as he does and all.

Also, don't say "duh". It makes you look stupid.

Actually, he was going to appeal, but when he saw how light the
suspension was, he pulled the appeal off the table. He knew he got
away with one there. What Francisco did was a lot worse that what
O'neal or Artest did.
