The Timberwolves this week are making a serious effort to sign free-agent
power forward Karl Malone.

The Wolves plan to have the NBA's most valuable player, Kevin Garnett, fly
to Los Angeles with coach Flip Saunders to try to persuade the 6-foot-9,
259-pound future hall of famer and two-time MVP to sign with Minnesota.

The San Antonio Spurs are considered the Wolves' top competition for Malone,
who's still seeking an NBA championship ring after 19 seasons.

<grin> Kinda like the Wolves....

And why would Karl be in L.A., rather than La. ?

he'd be a big help to the wolves. in fact, if he goes to MN, i might change
my WC prediction to wolves going to the finals...

For some reason, this makes me think he's returning to the Lakers.

He would help the wolves no doubt but I'd rather not have his dirty
elbowing throwing ass on the wolves either.

Maybe that's why Kid Sucker Punch wants him around?

On the other hand, Malone's elbows on your team reduces (but does
not eliminate) the chance of one of 'em knocking one of your teammates
out. It's a few more games of one of your forwards being healthy for
whoever signs him.

Minus the derogatives, I wouldn't want him as a T-Wolf either. He would make
a nice little upgrade from Gary Trent in relief for KG, eh? But playing
extended time for the Wolves seems like real bad "chemistry" - 2 "star" PFs
and a clueless Kandi? C`mon, that would be ugly!

There's no reason KG couldn't play the 3. See a lineup of:

Cassell
Sprewell
Garnett
Malone
Kandi

Malone plays maybe 25-30 minutes, KG shifts over to the 4 when he
does. Sprewell and Cassell also both get reduced minutes to keep them
healthy and fresh. Wally, Hassell, and Hudson step in to pick up those
minutes.

I actually love the idea of having those three vets on the team with
reduced minutes to keep their legs strong down the stretch and into
the playoffs. Malone also gives the Wolves a much-needed forward
option if, god forbid, KG ever has to miss any significent time.

To me, this move would make perfect sense for the Wolves and for
Malone. I don't seem to have the hatred of the man so many of the
posters here do. I'd love to see this happen.
