In Sunday's Bee, Jim Kozimor wrote an opinion piece to support the
arena (requires registration to read). Here is a quoted passage:
"The current Arco Arena provides 185 event dates for our community that
draw 1.5 million to 2 million people to the area annually. (What is the
economic impact of that?) Kings games represent just 23 percent of
those dates. Add in the WNBA's Monarchs, and the total rises to a mere
33 percent."
So Koz is trying to convince us that most of the arena will not be for
the Kings. But he didn't explain why they would need a couple of rows
of luxury boxes (you don't need that for concerts), or home and
visitor's locker rooms, or a party room for the Maloofs and their
friends.
Koz and his buddies at KHTK never tell you that their jobs depends on
the Kings staying in town. They just want you to pay for the toy box
to hold the billionaires' toy.
I would love to see a new arena for Sacto. But I am not willing to
hand the Maloofs hundreds of millions for their toy box. The Maloofs
need to step up.
