I think that Tennessee will be one of the best teams of all time for
the next few seasons after the brilliant recruiting class they are
getting in this year. Here is what their roster will look like:
Dominique Redding SO 6-1 F
Sid Spencer SO 6-3 F/C
Shanna Zolman JR 5-10 G
Brittany Jackson SR 6-0 G/F
Shyra Ely SR 6-2 F
Loree Moore SR 5-9 G
Tye'sha Fluker JR 6-5 C
Candace Parker FR 6-3 F
Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood FR 5-9 G
Alexis Hornbuckle FR 5-11 G
Nkolika Anosike FR 6-4 C
Sybil Dosty FR 6-3 C
Alex Fuller FR 6-3 F
Does anybody know what their starting line-up will be. I think it will
be:
Parker
Ely
Zolman
Wiley-Gatewood and either Hornbuckle or Anosike. It depends if they go
with a 3 guard offense or a different one. It will be hard to imagine
Loree More coming off the bench. In a way, this team could be too
talented but I think they are the front-runners for the title and can
win it. Any thoughts?

I have only seen a few games on TV, aside from the Final Four, but
Spencer (not at the FF, but on TV) has impressed me. I could see the
starting line-up being mainly upperclassmen (Moore if she rehabs well)
except for Parker or Hornbuckle IF they are able to adjust to the
college game quickly (and NOT need to be "center of attention")

So many times recently there have been very highly rated recruits who do
not turn into starters despite their talent. This could be the case
again here, like you say, with too much talent and a question mark about
how Pat will meld them as a team and how quickly chemistry develops.

Practice watchers who've seen summer workouts say Hornbuckle looks like an
All-American right now. Don't think Wiley-Gatewood is in school this semester,
so I cannot report on her, but so far, Alexis is making those practice watchers
say she's going to be the best guard ever to play at Tennessee.
Parker's not here either (playing on that Junior National team), but I don't
think there's any shortage of "star" candidates.
My money's on the best player on the floor in the '04 NC game:
Shanna Zolman.

From watching the High School all star game last April in New Orleans, I
would expect Hornbuckle to surprise everyone (based on the press that
Parker has gotten)... but then again with two such great talents the
question is whether they can co-exist and lead together for team
chemistry. I think the best thing about the '98 team was not that
Chamique was the leader...she was in stats, but I think it was Kelly
Jolly that held that group so tight together so they didn't mind having
the one star (who seemed to be quieter as a leader than their PG).

If this team can find that kind of leader then I suspect they will
dominate for awhile.

There is no reason to believe that they willl dominate when Britney Hunter
comes on board the UCONN squad.

UCONN will be just as loaded as Tennessee will be and of course that leaves it
to Geno and Pat to out coach each other.

The great rivalry will be very invigorating.

Hi, Irvy
Just want to point out that although Hunter was the top-ranked player in her
class, Candace Parker won most of the POY awards as a junior. (she's the only
two-time Naismith winner ever, and I believe she picked up USA Today and
Gatorade as an 11th-grader, as well).
In Hornbuckle, Parker and Wiley-Gatewood, I believe Pat Summitt landed the
three best players in what most describe as the best hs class to date.
This season could big fun for lots of teams, though, and the SEC will be
LOADED.
Georgia's gonna be HOT with those little guards, and they won't miss Thomas a
bit when Tasha Humphrey hits the floor. But LSU could be the best of all.
Sylvia Fowles is a beast.

Hi Betty,

As you said before. LSU should be loaded. UConn has an incredible class
coming in and no one here has quantified the impact of that Sadiq JUCO
phenom.

It could be very entertaining.
