Do coaches get pay during the lockout? Or like players, they don't?

You mean here that coaches *do* get paid, right? That seems to be what
you're saying in context, but the "nope" threw me for a second.

If that's what you mean, I'll confirm here - the NBA Players' Association
would be locked out, nobody else. Referees are employees of the league, for
example, and all team personnel will continue to be paid. You couldn't
expect the team's PR people, say, to go without compensation until a new
labor deal is struck. Unless, that is, the PR union starts lobbying for
seven-year guaranteed contracts.

Right. I was answering the last part of his question.

And have their own union.

There are a lot of those employees that have seasonal contracts and might be
out of work if a lockout extends into the season..

I doubt anyone thinks the lockout will cancel part of the season again, can
not plan on that, and the teams need the coaches in place before the draft
if possible. Having Jackson back would help attract a good free agent for
their mid-level exception and sell season tickets. I can see SAR taking a
mid-level to play there.

.... which, if it wasn't already obvious, was drawn to our attention when
Stern slapped down the referee's union rep for questioning his Jeff Van
Gundy decision.

Unfortunately, those likely to be worst hurt by a work stoppage are those
least able to ride the wave. I'm sure concessions workers, ticket takers,
etc. are far more likely to be temporary and/or laid off than, say, Nash or
Patterson.

That's the point. It's a little bit too obvious when you look at this move. I
wonder if B.Hunter thinks the same way :-)

have a good weekend
