Larry Brown had something to say about the officiating. He didn't like the
call against Hamilton and he didn't like the no-call on Reggie. Brown might
be right. But complaints about unfair treatment fall on deaf ears here in
Indiana.

"I don't think there's anybody like [Miller] or anybody who'd take it or
anybody who'd make it like him," Brown said. "Look at that. You tell me. Go
back to how we talked about at the beginning of this year how they wanted to
improve. You put it on the wrong people instead of putting it on the
players.

"Just look at the film," he continued. "He made a great shot, but you look
at the film and you write it down and you send me your judgment on that. It
was an unbelievable shot. Bow how did he get so open? He got in position and
like I always say, great players make great plays. But when you make no
field goals in the last seven or eight minutes, tell me how they can still
win just shooting free throws. I'd rather lose on how we missed shots rather
than how they hit free throws." Before we go on, now's an appropriate time
go back to something Pistons reserve forward Darvin Ham said Tuesday
regarding Pacers coach Rick Carlisle.

The Pistons should be blaming themselves, and I say that as a long time
(Kent Benson! Kelly Tripucka!) Pistons fan. If you only score 45
points in three quarters, and then have to hope that a ref will call an
offensive foul on Reggie Miller while he's taking a three--all while
you're still down three points with only a few seconds left ... well,
you need more options. Most charitably, Larry may be trying to deflect
blame from his players.--Joe

The Pacers did shoot a lot of free throws in the 4th quarter, but Miller's
wide open 3-pointer was a result of a weak flop by Lindsey Hunter.

In that game, the Pistons shot 28 free throws and the Pacers 27. The
difference was both teams made 23 of their free throws. You can't get
much more even than that. But you can't dig yourself an 18 point hole
and expect to come back. Especially when you turn the ball over 4
more times than your opponent. Three pointers weren't a determining
factor either. Pacers were 4 for 17 and the Piston's 3 for 16.

Amazingly the Piston's did come all the way back in the second half
and even held a 1 point lead late in the game. But they couldn't hold
it. Pistons' need to play much, much better in game 4 and on if they
want to face Miami in the finals.

The game has changed so much fouls are not like they use to be. At some
point they will be more game ending in being called and more violence will
erupt from players & coaches. I just don't understand why something hasn't
been done to address this issues in the last 5-10 years since things have
gone down hill to more of like a street game. If there is any integrity or
future something really has to be done.

larry brown should be blaming rip hamilton for turning the ball over or
missing an open jumper every time he touched the ball in the first half
