Just returned to the area after 25 years, to see the new, young Blazers
defeat the Sonics in a preseason game. But why are the other starters
from the 1977 championship team honored, with coach Ramsey, when the
"Train" is conspicuously absent?

I think it's the same reason why another starter, Gross, isn't honored
either.

No idea.

I think they should retire Hollins too. And Gross and Paxson and
Porter.

The only problem is, if we retire Hollins, Gross and Paxson (and
Porter), thats what...10 #'s retired? thats a little over-kill.

They should have a "hall of fame" sorta thing, like how the suns (iirc)
have a 'ring of honor'.

Porter should be retired out-right. Paxson deserves it too, and then
HOllins.

But like I said, that's a little too many #'s retired, so they should
do a "honor" thing instead.

The "retired numbers" thing has long been a sore subject with me. The
Blazers organization tried to milk the 77 Title for all it was worth in the
lean years of the early to mid 80s, and that's why you see Lloyd Neal and
Dave Twardzick up there. In all rights, they shouldn't be. The only Blazers
that should have realistically has their names retired from the Title Team
were Walton and Lucas. Everyone else was P.R. Filler.

There should be a total of five players retired: Petrie, Walton, Lucas,
Drexler, Porter. That's it. All the other players should be relegated to a
"ring of honor", like the previous poster suggested. And that Ring should
definately include Bobby Gross, Lionel Hollins, Johnny Davis, Jim Paxson,
Sidney Wicks, Buck Williams, Cliff Robinson (when he finally retires), and
Scottie Pippen.

Remember back in 90, or 92, whichever. They were just building the Newport
Bay restaraunt off I-205 at Mall-205? They had just got the roof up in
plywood, but before the metal panels were installed, and one of the workers
painted, in BIG letters, PORTERLAND! up there. I think about that whenever
I drive by that place. Someday it will be re-roof time and I can see it
again.
Terry was pretty damn good.

I remember during the 90 finals, someone made a big sign up (actually,
it was done well) that said "Welcome to Porterland".

of the (85-)90-92 teams, TP is my favorite by far. I think they should
retire his # at least (if they had to retire only 1 more I mean).

TP was our best PG, ever, without question.

it could've been a blonde one sneaking in..but when I get my
beard/goatee going it turns reddish brown..and my hair is relatively
dark brown. My uncle (my dads brother) went grey/white real young. So
did my moms mother, and my brother (and apparently now, both sisters).

So it's just my turn. I don't personally mind, I kind of wish I was
bald. I hate hair.

Be careful what you wish for, Dan. I was voted "hair most likely to recede"
in high school & it's been a good call. If you want to be bald you can
always shave your head to see how it looks first & then grow it back if you
don't like it. I'm just waiting for nature to finish its job on me. : )
