Isnt that what Kobe did when he first signed on with the lakers??? Signed on
to a big named team to get an easy win. Same could be said of Shaq when he
left orlando to sign with the Lakers. They did it for the easy ring. >> Stay informed about: Malone to the Spurs? |

Naw. Kobe forcing a deal to the Lakers was more about where he wanted to
play than an easy ring. The Laker's weren't an "easy ring" team when he
got there. >> Stay informed about: Malone to the Spurs? |

yeah, what is it about malone that make s me feel some degree of empathy for
him? maybe it's because of how jordan picked him clean before hitting the shot
that sealed karl's fate. >> Stay informed about: Malone to the Spurs? |

Indeed. I expect that the sight of Malone in a Spurs uniform will be enough
to make you want to puke your guts out. How about if, in addition to that,
Popovich steps down as coach and hires Phil Jackson, and then signs Shaq in
2005? Would that make you become a Mavs fan? >> Stay informed about: Malone to the Spurs? |

IF you're honest you'll handle it the same way Lakers' fans who felt the
same way handled it; you'll admit it was because you didn't know the guy and
you were wrong. Of course admitting you're wrong is more difficult for some
of us, isn't it?
I had to admit my error after watching him with the Lakers. He is a team guy
who contributed one of the most positive attitudes the franchise has ever
seen. Don't get me wrong, he still does things that I believe are wrong but
I no longer question his commitment to winning, his professionalism, and
integrity.
I wish him the best. All things considered, I just hope he doesn't end up in
Sacramento. I don't mind him winning a championship with the Spurs as long
as there is no repeat involved, heh, heh.

This is getting entertaining Marcus. I'm hoping Karl will go to every
contender who dogged us Jazz fans about his elbows over the years. It was
particularly fun watching Laker fans defend the bumps and bruises he dished
out with the guns they used to give us hell about. It's just a matter of
time before MyBalls shows back up on your board and starts giving you hell
about Karl. >> Stay informed about: Malone to the Spurs? |

There were many Lakers fans who still disliked Karl, even after he
signed on last year. This is the same loser who dogged Byron Scott
for supposed riding Magic and Kareem's coattails to championships,
then Malone himself tried to do the same thing with Shaq and Kobe.
Now, I'm disappointed that the Lakers lost, but if there is one
positive is that Malone is still the ringless wonder. >> Stay informed about: Malone to the Spurs? |

Somebody still, after his absence was arguably the deciding factor in the
Finals, still throws out this "coattails" idiocy.

Last season, the Lakers were the preseason favorites for the title
before they signed Malone. Yes, his injury really hurt the team, but he
chose to go to a team which, at the time of his signing, would have been
the favorite for the title with or without him.
And right now, today, assuming the Shaq trade goes through, who are the
favorites for the title?
Probably San Antonio. Maybe Detroit or Minnesota, but realistically,
most people would pick San Antonio as the safe choice for the favorite.
And surprise surprise, that's where Malone wants to go.
I'm not saying he can't contribute to a winning team; such a
proposition is clearly false. I'm not saying he's unwilling to work for
it, and I praised him for his selflessness and teamwork earlier this
last season.
But don't tell me he wants to play in S.A. because of the climate or
because they pass the ball or because he's wants to be closer to home.
That's b.s. and you know it. He wants to go there because, with or
without him, they're the favorite for the title.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Although him coming to the Lakers was
nowhere near as hard to stomach as was Kareem when he went from being
Anti-Laker number one in the post Russell era to their franchise player.
Malone's dirty player image always seemed a bit manufactured to me anyway,
there were a couple of dozen guys who threw more elbows than him active in
any given year in the 70's.
