I'll agree with Swyck though to argue that the team isn't even close
to being ready. Yes, the team has won 7 of 9. However, of the wins
they played Miami twice, the Clippers, New York, and Memphis, all of
which were at home except one of the Miami games. They beat a
mediocre Washington team and an injured Dallas team by the whopping
score of 84-76 (Dallas at the time without Harris, Dampier,
Stackhouse, and Hassell and coming off another loss to New Jersey on
the road). So with that in mind I'm not entirely impressed with the
recent success, especially since they are *still* 7 games under .500.
In any case, as I've mentioned around here before, after the Korver
trade it made absolutely *no* sense not to trade Miller. The team
admitted that trade was to clear cap space for this summer, but
without also trading Miller they will only be hovering around having
$10M free, which won't even be enough for one max offer, which is
likely what they would need to pry the kind of young star PF that they
need away from another team. And on top of all that, as the Sixers'
pathetic outside shooting has shown, they are now in desperate need of
adding someone much like Korver as well in free agency. And this is
not yet even taking into consideration extensions for Iguodala and
Williams. Now, maybe Miller could still be packaged with the extra
space as a trade exception for someone, but then Miller would only
interest contending teams already and what contender would exchange
their top PF for cap space and Miller? Only Denver comes to mind with
some kind of package involving Nene (maybe with someone like JR
Smith), who has been completely unreliable because of injury.
As for Williams, I don't think he's now going to get much better until
he gets a chance to start and really run the team. The team has Young
starting out of position and he has been doing alright. The more
pertinent question to me seems to be that there is still a long way to
go before the team can really be competitive again and without trading
Miller there don't seem to be a whole lot of possibilities for more
than lateral movement in the offseason.
