LL was on crutches at the Mercury vs. Sparks game. She put no weight on her
right leg. She didn't stand up during timeouts. She won't be playing
against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday because she has been placed on injured
reserve.
The Sparks beat the Mercury in double overtime.
Cooper was trying any number of combinations. He even tried a team with four
guards and a small forward or three guards and the two small forwards on the
court at the same time; Teasley, Dixon, Witherspoon and McCrimmon with
Milton playing the post. At another point Nikki Teasley was the defensive
center.
Rhonda Mapp was surprisingly effective. Mwadi Mabika found some room to
drive to the hoop with Leslie gone from the low post, and played her best
game this year.
Mercury looked like a far better team than when they visited L.A. a year ago
although their record is the worst in the WNBA. Adrian Williams is
definitely for real and is a vastly better player than her rookie year. I'll
never forget Mwadi Mabika bouncing an inbound pass off Williams' backside,
getting the rebound, the basket, the foul and the free throw in Cynthia
Cooper's last game as the Mercury's head coach last year. Anna Deforge is a
very quick and effective guard. Lousy shooting night, but I don't know why
Deforge has such a bum rap.
