Well nothing is official until July 9, but if the deals and trades
that have been reported are indeed for real, the look of the Pacer
team will be very different next season.
As already mentioned, Jermain is off to Toronto and TJ Ford, Rasho
Nesterovic and Maceo Baston are coming to Indianapolis. Then, after
some draft night trades and swaps and God knows what else, the Pacer
end up with Kareem Rush's brother, Brandon Rush who is a much better
player and Roy Hibbert (I really like this pick up), veterans Jarrett
Jack and Josh McRoberts (from Indy). Also Australian Nathan Jawai was
picked up but he was sent to Toronto as part of the trade deal for
Jermaine.
McRoberts played his college ball at Duke, so you know he's got a good
background and he's got good size 6'10", 240 lbs. But he's not a
starter yet as he only got into 8 games last season with Portland.
Jarrett Jack is a 3 year pro out of Georgia Tech who is 6'3", 197 lbs.
He's a very good PG and will challenge TJ Ford for the starting spot,
IMO. He did start 16 games last season for Portland, but mostly came
off the bench.
With all these additions, the question begs itself, who is gone?
Kareem Rush for sure as he is a free agent and will most likely not be
signed. You got to think that fragile Jamaal Tinsley will be traded
or released. The team already lost Ike Diogu (a really good player
IMO) to Portland. And who knows who else will be moved once the July
1 trading date comes about.
With the addition of Neterovic and Hibbert, I got to believe that Jeff
Foster's days are numbered or that he will be relegated to the bench.
Jeff's health hasn't been that great and he will be entering his 10th
season.
Also, Troy Murphy may be dealt as well. I'm not sure about that one
because he could still be the backup PF for awhile especially since
Diogu was traded.
Should be an interesting July for the Pacers.

Also played in the D-League a couple of stints, 23 games off the bench with
the Idaho Stampede with an assistant blazers coach there... blazers liked
him well enough to give a 2nd round pick a 2 year contract before the
season. But there is also a team option and the blazers might have had to
waive him anyway to make room for this years picks.

The season before he started 79 games and averaged 12 pts and 5+ asts.
But he is more to an average PG than 'very good' and would not start on most
teams.
TJ should be safe...
JJ is limited talent wise but works his butt off in every way and often
makes plays from his strength.
He is a pretty decent leader and accepts his role and makes the best of
them. He is fair running the team in the half court but barely improving
over poor leading breaks. He is actually better off the ball and Nate used
him at the 2 guard often. He can muscle his way though the lane for layups
and has a decent outside shot if slightly streaky.

Only if TJ stays healthy. He's had some neck injury issues and has
missed a lot of games. Same with Tinsley. I've seen JJ play and I
like his game. I think he is an insurance pickup.

If you look up inside player in the dictionary you would see a picture
of Ike. He's a tenacious rebounder and scores well inside. He's not
a great ball handler but that's not his job anyway. Great energy guy
kind of like Maxiell in Detroit. If he get enough playing time in
Portland, you'll love him.

JJ may get more minutes at SG. They are not that deep for guards are they
even adding B Rush?
Rush also has had injury problems with a knee. Will they keep K Rush?

He likely will not get much PT unless they trade frye or joel, or he can
beat Frye out of the minutes.
Nate likes small ball and often plays Travis Outlaw at PF.
It is a pretty flexable roster, I think only two players do not play 2 or 3
positions .
(as of this date more trades likely with KP...Webster is rumored to be on
the block)
PG: Blake, Bayless, Sergio Rodriguez, and the rights to Koponen
SG: Roy, Rudy Fernandez coming in from spain
SF: Webster, Outlaw, Batum unless he is more ready than I think
(Outlaw is better than Webster but Nate likes him with the white unit (Nate
does not call them starters, bench, reserves or 2nd unit...just the black
unit and white unit)
(James Jones might get re-signed and/or Batum might stay in euro league a
year)
PF: Aldridge, Frye, Diogu
C: Oden, Pryzbilla,
and LaFrentz AKA the ending contract. Might get bought out
