IMHO the season will hinge on the effectiveness of Jarret Jack. When
Jack plays well the Blazers hit on all cylinders, but when he's not,
they ask Roy to do everything. I think we know what JoeL, Aldridge,
Travster Weblaw combo will give. Jack needs to play more consistently
and take charge of the offense. Also, I think it's really important
that JoeL stays healthy or they'll be really shorthanded up front.
If these things fall into place, I think they could eke out an 8 spot
over GS and LAL. I don't think the Clips will hold up and the Lakes
are too one dimensional. I think given the toughness of GS schedule
the first two weeks (Dalls, Utah twice, Det, Cleveland) they are
likely to put together a big win streak at the weak part of the
schedule later, so they may finish around .500. I think 45 wins gets
a playoff spot. New Orleans is MUCH better this year primarily
because they are not full of injuries like last year when three
starters were injured for a long stetch. I'm guessing they get a 7 or
6 seed.
Good news, though, Jack seems to have a good head on his shoulders and
doens't try to be flashy.
