This is one of those deals imho needed to be done right after or he
was gone. It was a forgone conclussion he would get a much better
offer than we could give him....so they needed to find a number he'd
accepot quickly before he saw those zeros from other offers. Good luck
to him hate to see the guy go...I hope they have a plan B. >> Stay informed about: Posey Breaks the Bank! |

Surely you're not comparing James Posey with John Havlicek,
universally acclaimed as one of the greatest players of all time.
Heck, just a couple of years ago Slam! magazine ranked Hondo the 15th
best player of all time. And although he (and Frank Ramsey) are
famous "Sixth Men," half way through his career Hondo became a starter
where he remained the rest of his career. >> Stay informed about: Posey Breaks the Bank! |

I was going to say, how does Hondo fit into this thread at all,
Raymond? Am I missing something? Posey isn't THAT good. >> Stay informed about: Posey Breaks the Bank! |

I was *very* surprised by his contract. I think he played a great role and
all, but that is some serious overpayment. Two years from now they're going
to be wondering how to dump his contract and won't be able to. It's not
like he's 24 years old either. Wow. >> Stay informed about: Posey Breaks the Bank! |

Plan B will be to see how the rookies play and some more dabbling in free
agency. Role players are not hard to find. >> Stay informed about: Posey Breaks the Bank! |

In a way, though, kudos to his agent. The Celts offered three and
wouldn't go higher. I'm sure the Hornets went the same way, but he
went to the Hornets and said, "You've got until 5pm tonight. If you
stick with 3 years, James is re-signing with the Celtics. If you go
to 4 years, he'll sign." And they paniced and went the extra year. >> Stay informed about: Posey Breaks the Bank! |

His agent did an awesome job. He's on a team with a good chance to win
a championship during his contract, he got a good chunk of money, his
new team didn't do something that'll cause serious cap problems for them
somewhere down the line... it was nice work.
