Lakers Offer Odom For Artest
Jul 10, 2008 11:15 AM EST
According to a league source, the Lakers have contacted the Kings
regarding Ron Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar
Odom.
Kings' basketball President Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether
the Lakers had called.
"Right now, (Artest is) just a terrific player to have on your roster,
" Petrie said. "I don't really have any speculation one way or another
(about his future). We'll see what other things – not specific to Ron –
but if there's some other way we can improve the team or change the
team, we'll take a look at it."

As much as I actually like Lamar, this would be a gamble worth trying
for the Lakers. Artest fulfills two of their big needs at SF ...
better D and a decent shooter. The downside of this is (assuming the
Kings are even really considering it) is that Sac will make us take
Kenny Thomas's contract at $8+mil for the next 2 years ... major
bummer 8^(. If Artest flames out, his contract is up after next year
and we just let him go. The actual scary part of this would be that he
fits well with the team, and then you're faced with the decision on
giving him a long term contract after that 8^).

---------------------------------------
Probably. It's like Rodman all over again and everyone points to how well
it worked out for the Bulls but they forget what a disaster he was in SA.
On the other hand, when you're trying to make a step from great to able to
dethrone the champs, you have to take some risks (OK, unless you're dealing
with the Grizz).
I'm already on record saying if PJ and Kobe are OK with this, I'm OK with
it. I like Lamar a lot and would LOVE to see him stick around somehow
(somebody mentioned a Farmar/Mihm/Ariza for Artest deal that would be
fantastic) but Artest would simply be a better positional fit for the Lakers
and would address some serious shortcomings.

Exactly. It's Rodman II. Even given that we have Phil Jackson to
hold the butterfly net. Artest is a headcase. The Laker front office
is on drugs. >> Stay informed about: RealGM: Lakers Offer Odom For Artest |

Just wait until the next time he asks for a month off in
the middle of the season to promote a rap CD or something
similar. >> Stay informed about: RealGM: Lakers Offer Odom For Artest |

As a person who wants to see the Lakers melt down, I'm for this
trade..but as a basketball fan, in the purest sense, I don't see how
this trade is a smart thing to do, at this time.
remember, this is the guy who cracked Jordan in the ribs as a rookie
(or whatever the legend is). Michael. Jordan.
He still doesn't know his place in the league, and Sacramento taking a
dump the last few seasons didn't humble him as much as you'd think. >> Stay informed about: RealGM: Lakers Offer Odom For Artest |

Now that would be a pretty foolish trade. Why trade youth for Artest
when we have a declining player like Odom who somebody might be dumb
enough to take on? Has it ever dawned on anyone that Lamar has lost a
lot of his quickness over the years? Ariza is going to be a key guy for
us, and unlike Odom, I think he can still develop into a pretty decent
three point shooter. Plus, his D is excellent.

speaking as a celtics fan, this is a great trade...for the other 28
teams in the league. sacramento gets no better, and the lakers get
worse when artest implodes. >> Stay informed about: RealGM: Lakers Offer Odom For Artest |

It's amazing how protective people are of this guy. Odom goes out and
parties during the championship series, completely tanks and he's
supposed to be considered a class guy? Hey, he's popular in the Laker
locker room because he throws great parties. Great!
I've had enough of him. Yeah, yeah...some day he'll develop an outside
shot and play consistent D. Maybe by the time he retires...

Not sure if you've watched him play lately, but he does not
consistently work hard (although I think he would get up for big games
in the playoffs) and he dominates the ball on the offensive end. >> Stay informed about: RealGM: Lakers Offer Odom For Artest |
