CLEVELAND -- A final decision on the fate of the Rockers is expected soon.
Cleveland's WNBA franchise has been in limbo since the end of its season two
weeks ago; a campaign that ended with the news that owner Gordon Gund was
considering pulling the plug on the team.
An arena spokesman said Wednesday that the Cavaliers/Gund Arena Company was
still ``conducting a review'' of all issues related to the Rockers. He
declined further comment.
Numerous WNBA sources have said the Rockers are unlikely to return for the 2004
season.
A minimum of one Western Conference team is also expected to fold, though
league president Val Ackerman continues to publicly state that the WNBA's
present 14 teams are stable.
Only five of the league's franchises are currently accepting ticket deposits
for next summer.
This is in today's Medina Gazette.
