Women's Sports mailing list starting - Hi, A new mailing list is just starting that will be an umbrella for all of women's sports. It's for women and men. For more please visit: Thanks, Shiloh

What can we say about women's basketball - I think women's is alot better to watch and go see than men's and this is coming from a man's point of view. And I love to see all the people come out and support women's no matter what team you are for.It was great to see..

Women's open play in NYC - All levels of play welcomed, work out area come to work on your skills! City Women's open play Pier 63, 23rd St. and West Side Highway Friday nights, 6-8 p.m. longer) $10 per person bring a white and dark..

Women are too fat to play basketball - For playing you have to be 7" and thin. Women are only 5" and fat, so they could only be used as ball, but not to play the game.

the size of the women's basketball - could someone tell me why even on the college level why the size of women's is still smaller than the size of men's? u would think that on this level women would have hands large enough to be able to handle a size

I was under the impression that I could come to this board and read some
intelligent posts about women's basketball. Why is it lately that even the
titles here of the posts are offensive and pornagraphic instead of women's
sports? Is there not a monitor on newsgroup message boards? If that is the
case then I will say goodbye to all the intelligent posters here and other
posters please refrain from your outrageous posts.

It seems fewer and fewer people are posting here, though I haven't
figured if there's a central place they have all gone!

Hey Nancy! I think many posters have gone to the ESPN message boards.
Also, there are some popular e-groups. I really miss the give-and-take
here, but it seems that fewer and fewer people use newsgroups of any sort
nowadays. <frown>

hi sooz,

a lot of good people have gone elsewhere and all those wins by UCONN just
chased a few out of the business of pontificating.

ESPN is sort of interesting and so is the boneyard.

The future will be interesting. Especially this year.

But there is still the WNBA and Olympic Team to talk about... But then
that's mostly about UCONN too.

Usenet has always been inundated with offensive and pornographic posts and
images. At least as long as I have been on usenet;
which is some seven years now (not that I'm suggesting that is any sort of
direct relationship between the two ;). This newsgroup has had it's share
of "flamers", "trolls", and "spammers", but nowhere near as bad as other
newsgroups I've read. Some newsgroups had posters that I thought were plain
crazy. Others had things posted on them that in any other context would
have landed people in jail or in court. Better at home, on-line in front of
a monitor than out on the street, I suppose. I always wondered if there was
a relationship between the rise of internet activity and the decline of
crime in this country during the 1990's.

Many newsgroups, including usenet groups have "moderators". From my own
observation, they don't work. "Moderated" newsgroups tend to be the dullest
and the deadliest, if for no other reason due to the delay from the time a
post is sent to the time it will appear on the board. Moderators have to
get their sleep, go to work and do other things like the rest of us. Some
moderators act like they own the board, and alienate many participants or
discourage others.

Usenet is in decline. I suspect it's the switch to broadband. I've
read that some ISP's don't carry Usenet anymore. People are supposed to go
back to watching cartoons or whatever now that they have broadband. Pity.

My own solution is a tough attitude and a good newreader killfilter. I've
got more than a hundred entries on mine at last count.

Off season, not much to talk about. UCONNed out right now, too.
USENET use probably diminishing. I can remember when we all
were amazed that someone would even *think* to use the Internet
for commercial ventures, and would never post an *ad* in a NG.
Those were the days.

As they used to say "Back when the rigs were made out of wood,
and the men were made of iron ..." (oil patch reference).

Intelligent posters still exist. Idiots still get *plonked*, killfiles
still slurp in the trash, and some actual decent commentary
comes along, too.

I, for one, am surprised at how far women's b-ball has come in such
a relatively short time. Emminently enjoyable.

The problem is that we accumulated too many people that apparently had

We have had some terrific, knowledgeable people in this newsgroup from

ill-mannered jerks that didn't deserve to be noticed.

I learned years ago that a good kill-file takes care of a lot of
aggravation. But apparently others would rather leave than ignore the
idiots.

Sorry for the extreme negativity, but I remember when r.s.b.w. was the
best source of information for NCAA WBB.

I also remember when this newgroups was the best source for the latest in
women's basketball. I'm saddened by its decline. As for the "reflection in
the mirror" problem with team boards, I try to lessen that problem by
maintaining a healthy dose of skepticism and also reading the boards for
rival teams. Not a perfect solution, but it is one way to avoid most of the
constant Tenn / UConn fan scuffle.

Please excuse the top-posting!

Sternvogel? Is that you? I very much agree with you about the team and
conference message boards and about why lots of people have left r.s.b.w.
(and newsgroups in general). The decline of usenet is very sad, and the
message boards and e-groups really aren't a complete replacement.

I hope all is well with you and yours! <grin>

I used to post here a lot a few years ago... but I guess I started
getting increasingly fed up with newsgroups fullstop. This includes
all newsgroups, not just this one... it was actually probably to a
lesser extent this newsgroup that bothered me. But as I stopped
reading other newsgroups as much because they were so overrun with
stupid posts I stopped coming in here at the same time.

Also, the number of posts really has seemed to dwindle so I don't pop
in all that often anymore (although that's really been part of the
problem).

I tend to have gone to team sites and league sites for my basketball
fix.

It is a shame because I used to love coming here and reading about
different leagues, different teams, players, and mostly the great
international discussions there were.
