It has been clear since the end of the season that Skinner would leave.
He'a a free agent, and he didn't like not starting in the playoffs.

I thought he'd get between $4M and $5M per year. I think the Sixers got a
good deal there. It's a big blow to the Bucks, but like Paul said, this isn't
unexpected so hopefully Harris has a plan in place to replace him.
But the salaries being paid to a lot of free agents so far border on insane.
Adonal Foyle getting $8M a year? That's freaking asinine. >> Stay informed about: Skinner |

From 7/9/04 ESPN Insider:
"Etan Thomas the next big to fall? With bigs flying off the shelf, the word
out of Milwaukee is that the Bucks are seriously considering offering
Wizards big man Etan Thomas a six-year deal for between $37 and $39
million -- roughly the full mid-level exception.
Thomas averaged 8.9 ppg and 6.7 rpg but is considered an undersized center
at just 6-foot-9. The Wizards would have until July 29th to match the offer.
The Wizards need bigs in the worst way, but will they really drink that
Kool-Aid? "

Agree. This is getting a little bit crazy

I heard about this and I'm not sure I'm too keen on it. Spending the full
mid-level on a frontcourt player might be unavoidable given the contracts being
doled out, but a six-year deal for Etan Thomas? I just don't like the sound of
being locked into a deal that longterm for someone who isn't a proven key
member of your team. This would be a HUGE gamble for Harris to take.

I'm not really sure what's prompting it to be honest. It's one thing to be
overpaying for established players like Nash; but Adonal Foyle? Rafer Alston?
Even Camby's deal from the Nuggets was silly. >> Stay informed about: Skinner |

I like him, but Wizzards will probably match

How about Brian Cardinal - 6 yrs / 39 million from Grizzlies. Pure
desperation
Looks like if don't overpay you get nothing.

I think the six years might scare them off. Hell, it's scaring me off.

This has definitely been a crazy off-season. Some of these deals are going
to end up biting some teams in the ass. I just hope if the Bucks do get Thomas,
they're not one of the teams that gets bit in the end. >> Stay informed about: Skinner |

I'm a big fan of Etan and Skinner. Skinner is a bit better. If Etan keeps
improving on offense he's maybe worth the kind of dough in question.
Skinner is more effective on the offensive blocks, and Etan has a hands
issue, but I think it's mental, i.e. he's not looking for passes when he
should be. Neither guy can shoot freethrows. Etan is almost in the Ben
Wallace range on help defense. He gets up.

Rafer Alston is well worth 25 mil. PGs are built on asphalt.

So they say, but they're still pretty deep along the front if you like
kids. BIG kids. At +- 37 mil I might not match for Etan.

It won't be a bad bust. The dude plays in the mosh pit after having his
orbital bone (eye socket) broken. He's bright too. His poetry isn't bad,
and his reading of it is quite good.
