Ahh it depends how you define champion. Isiah would tell you his
players had the hearts of champions... >> Stay informed about: Just saw Spellcheck on Crutches with a huge bandage on his.. |

Let's see if you're still saying that in a year after you see Williams
in action.
I really don't like what the Warriors are doing with their offseason.
Aside from letting Davis go (which the jury's still out on the quality
of that move, as far as I'm concerned), they tried to wildly overpay
for a debilitating injury-recovering Brand, wildly overpaid for Knick-
like Corey Maggette (selfish and defensively challenged) when that
didn't work, slightly overpaid for Turiaf and worst of all, let
Azibuke (sp?) go to LA. Azibuke was a great player with a lot of
upside and a good defensive mentality and hustle -- instead they got
Maurice Evans at presumably a higher number, who's a decent but kind
of a ho-hum player. All of this with a continued glut at the 2-3 and
gaping holes at the 1 and the 5, presumably to be filled by classic 2
Monta Ellis (who is NOT a 1) and classic 4 Biedrins (who is NOT a 5),
and with the coach that made it all better ready to bounce next summer
if things don't go well. Now they're trading future picks for
generally proven failure Marcus Williams. Ugh.
If you're going to overpay for a bunch of question marks, why let
Davis go in the first place? Or why not sit tight and see if you
can't get Chris Bosh to San Fran in two years? >> Stay informed about: Just saw Spellcheck on Crutches with a huge bandage on his.. |

I define champion by winning a title. Yankees won titles in 1996,
1998, 1999, 2000. Giants won in 1995 (I think) and 2008. Rangers won
in 1994, and there were more recent hocky titles with the Devils if
you want to throw East Rutherford into the city mix (I don't, really,
but they're closer than the Islanders at Nassau). Mets, Jets, and
Islanders certainly were in the running a few times even though they
didn't get it done. And even our poor, sad basketball team went to
the finals in 1994 and 1999, and competed plenty hard against one M.
Jordan and company for a title in many of the intervening years, and
theoretically could have been back in the running by now if it weren't
for the outstanding triple-play by Dolan of getting rid of Ernie
Grunfeld and replacing him with Dave Checketts, Scott Layden, and
Isiah Thomas in succession.
So I'm not sure Dan's "downsizing" plan, even if it made any sense (it
doesn't), has any relevance there. >> Stay informed about: Just saw Spellcheck on Crutches with a huge bandage on his.. |

That was not quite their choice...unless you count Nellie giving him a
shove...

50 mil 5 years worth of Corey... but not like they had a lot of better FAs
to choose from.

Slightly? We blow off one or two million real dollars a year like... poof...
fairy dust... =)
and worst of all, let

Evans is a about one mil per year cheaper than the clips offer sheet for
Azubuike.
Two mil instead of three and 3 years instead of 4 or 5.

I agree but combine Turiaf's hustle with Evan's experience and it may be
pretty good 2nd unit replacement?
Azibuke was trending to the nellie dog house and dropping PT anyway.
He went from 25 mpg the first 41 games to 18.5 the second half

I think planning around players who might be FAs in 2 years if they are dumb
enough not to get an extension when a lot of teams will be under the cap is
not that wise.

Didnt we give the brooklyn dodgers and the NY giants both to cali....
Maybe we could give cali some more teams.... Minnesota gave them the
lakers. We could probably go on with other sports teams... >> Stay informed about: Just saw Spellcheck on Crutches with a huge bandage on his.. |
