Would love to see the Spurs take on some of the one of the powerhouse Greek,
or Russian teams. Would be a battle.
What ever happened to that global championship that happened in the 90's? It
was the winner of the NBA (which at the time was the Rockets) vs the winners
of various other basketball leagues from around the world in a tournament. >> Stay informed about: are the Spurs really ""world champs""? |

I remember saying that instead of having all-stars play on the USA
Olympic team, they should have the NBA champs play in it.
The only problem I soon realized is that you'd lose half of your team
these days. And the Spurs might as well be a lottery team. >> Stay informed about: are the Spurs really ""world champs""? |

The problem with this type of tournament in pro basketball is that most
of the other pro basketball leagues in the world play with a different
set of rules than the NBA, unlike pro soccer leagues that play, more or
less, by the same set of rules the world over.

Non the less, it was a very cool concept.
I remember watching the Houston Rockets vs The Perth Wildcats (Champions on
the Australian national basketball league the NBL, that year), and it was a
great game.

If the Spurs cared, it wouldn't be close.
The problem with most international competitions for NBA teams and
players isn't so much the minor rule differences so much as the fact
that American NBA players care about the NBA, and everything else is a
glorified exhibition season.
There is no reasonable doubt. The Spurs would absolutely destroy the
best European club team, period. It would make the NBA finals look close.
