I don't get these guys.
Bostons are playing like they are out of gas. Not like the Pistons can steal
this game out of gas, but really out of gas. Except, of course, for KG
hitting on FG way over his %.
The Pistons, in their wisdom have decided to play even worse. Good idea.
Their best idea of a play was McDyess 15 footers.

They are driving me crazy.

I'm just sayin'

The play that summed up the game for me was in the middle of the 4th,
Pistons down by 6-8, Hamilton comes up with the ball and dribbles wildly
down the left side, no Pistons with him, starts into two or three Celtics,
finally thinks better of it, then finally passes to Wallace who takes a
rushed three pointer with lots of time left on the shot clock.

The only decent length stretch when they seemed to be in an offensive
rhythm was when Stuckey and Billups were in the backcourt together, and
that seemed to be mostly because of what Stuckey was doing. To Boston's
credit, they weren't giving Detroit much time to make decisions, and unlike
Detroit, Boston players were regularly setting picks for each other and
trying to set up mismatches.

To me it seemed the Pistons were sluggish the whole game and clearly
Chauncey doesn't have his "basketball" legs under him yet. Only 9
points and 2 assists. Celtics were still on the game 7 adrenaline
rush and KG won this battle (one of many) over Rasheed. Rip needed to
get going earlier than the 3rd and McDyess seemed to turn down shots
he usually hits. Rip did a pretty good job on Ray Allen who is still
struggling with his outside shot, but there is no way Perkins and
House and Rondo should have been able to score, especially on the 3s,
like they did.

I hate to say that Game 2 is a must win for the Pistons, but I think
it is.

This is what I wrote in another group last night:

The Pistons played a little flat and made defensive mistakes that they
wouldn't normally make. As I said before they would have to play smart
on those screen and roll/pop with KG or else his jumper would be
murder.... They are going to have to do a better job pushing the ball
handlers away from the basket and do a much better job on the
screener(who would usually pop out for a jumper). That isht killed us
all night long. LMAO The oldest play in the book is the most used and
the hardest to guard.

But if we would have gotten anything from Billups last night that
would have made a WORLD of difference. Obviously he was out of rhythm
after not playing since May 7th and being really tentative with his
shot.... But I'm like dude basketball is a sport you've been playing
since you were in diapers; SNAP OUT OF IT!

But big ups to my Pistons though... Rust was a factor but they still
played it close for the most part. There was a point down the stretch
where it looked as though the Pistons were coming back when were down
just 7 points or so... On a broken play Sheed launches a three... the
problem you ask? It was so out of rhythm and completely out of the
offense and was highly contested... In other words, it was a bad shot.
However, if the Pistons would have slowed it down on that possession
and worked for a better shot and executed that could have made a world
of difference in terms of momentum.

Look for the Pistons to be a lot sharper on the defensive end in game
2 because IMO on that end is the biggest issues with the screen and
roll play between Peirce and KG. Oh and Pierce's penetration is a
SERIOUS issue. That interior defense was as thin as ever....

There was clearly a disparity in the number of fouls called on the
Pistons versus the number on the Celitcs. However, it only pointed
out much more aggressive on defense the Pistons were. In some cases
too aggressive. They gave too many fouls out on the floor instead of
on a shot or a drive. Still though, it kept the Celtics from getting
into any kind of rhythm and kept their field goal percentage around
33% while the Pistons were shooting over 50%. I'll take that every
game.
