The Sting beat the Sparks.

The Sting outplayed the Sparks, simple as that.
The Sting have a center that can score points
and get rebounds. The Sparks do not at the moment.
The Sparks need Lisa Leslie back, BAD!

Andrea Stinson now has over 3,000 points in
her WNBA career. She is some kind of player and
had some kind of game tonight. She scored 23 points.
10 field goals, all the hard way.

There appears to be a "thing" developing between
the Sting and the Sparks. Like a little bad blood.
"Altercations" nearly occurred twice in the game.
Dawn Staley nearly rumbled with Vanessa Nygaard
when she thought she was fouled too hard under the
basket. It would have been bit of a mismatch as
Staley is 5'6" and 134 lbs. and Nygaard is 6'1" and
180 lbs.

Then late in the game, Mwadi Mabika
was extremely upset with Andrea Stinson for some
reason. Michael Cooper had to take her out of the
game. Both Mabika and Coop got technicals on that
occasion.

On Lisa Leslie's "Battle of Wounded Knee", she is
now walking around normally. No limp. No indication
when she will be playing again, though.

Without Leslie the Sparks look pretty bad. Seems the only offense they've
learned all these years is to dump the ball down to Leslie or hit open shots
when other players cheat off you to cover Leslie.

Still the Sparks are well in front and will no doubt make the play offs, so why
not give LL all the time she needs.

LL has never been seriously hurt in her WNBA career until this year. She
has been the Sparks center since the league was started. People just got
used to LL playing at center all the time.

Now that she's out with a long term injury, everything has fallen apart. The
Sparks ARE a better team than what they have shown since LL went down. But
since the injury, the only teams the Sparks have been able to beat are
Phoenix and DC, the two prime contenders in the Diane Taurasi derby. Since
LL's injury, Houston, Connecticut, San Antonio, Sacramento, and Charlotte
have all beaten the Sparks, Four of those games were at Staples. Right now
the Sparks are the worst team in the WNBA with the exception of Phoenix and
DC.

The Sparks are departing LA for a five game road trip. Lisa Leslie will not
be accompanying the team. I'm predicting Houston will be on top in the
Western Conference when they return to Los Angeles.

I'd take odds on Staley. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it the size
of the fight in the dog.

Judging from how poorly the Sparks are playing, isn't it numerically possible
for them to miss the playoffs if they lose their remaining nine games?

Teasley has stepped up, but the others look lost. I think Milton has
disappointed a lot of people with her lack of inside play. Her percentage of
missed layups must be gigantic.

That is almost impossible.

I thought she may have had a knee injury not long after the 1998 World
Championships.

They only have eight games left on the regular season, not nine. Three of
those games are with teams that are out of the playoffs.
One with Phoenix and two with San Antonio. If Phoenix and San Antonio
cooperate, the Sparks -should- make the playoffs.
I wouldn't expect any charity from Houston, Seattle, or Minnesota.

The rest of the conference playoff hopefuls should be beating up on each
other so much that one or two more wins will be all that
the Sparks will need to get into the playoffs.

The biggest difference has been in the defensive play. Other teams go
inside or drive on the basket against the Sparks with absolute impunity
now. Andrea Stinson would have had the ball stuffed back into her face by
LL if she had tried going inside like she did Saturday.

Lisa Leslie missed 4 games in 6 WNBA seasons. She started in over 200 WNBA
games in that time period.

She has already missed eight games this year.
