Why? You are supposed to be rooting for NO with your team a game and a half
behind the Blazers...

This is from Mike Barrett's Blog I found it interesting as to looking at
that from an opponents view:
In the media room today, before the game, I was talking to an NBA scout
about this Blazer team. He scouts for one of our upcoming opponents, and has
seen us about 6 times this season. I love finding out what they're looking
for, and what impresses them the most. He said a couple of things that stuck
with me. The first basically had to do with what I just talked about. A team
that goes 10 deep, consistently, is always hard to prepare for. Most teams
have a 7 or 8-man rotation. And, not many coaches adjust by feel in the
second halves of games. That's what Nate does- he'll go with a hot hand, and
stick with it, if it's working.
The other thing the scout told me, and something he said is now common
knowledge in scouting circles around the league, you don't want to be in a
close game with the Trail Blazers inside of the final 7 minutes of the game
(he used the 7-minute mark, specifically). He said that's when the Portland
coaches begin playing with the defensive schemes. They'll pop in and out of
zones, man to man, and trap and press at irregular times. He said that
because of this, no one really ever knows what defensive Portland is
playing. Not only does that make it difficult to attack, but it makes
matchups very difficult, especially in transition. The scout told me it's
very difficult, mentally, for opponents to deal with. They just aren't sure
what to do.
